The Dream Yacht Docks at Gilligan’s Island
by LostRainbow, HSM guest contributor
When I first saw a preview of the Lockwood Dream Yacht back in December, I knew I had to own this space in Home.
It’s an incredible space with a lot of potential to decorate. I especially love the scenery around it, and love spending time relaxing in the hot tub and hanging with friends. The scenery reminds me of New England because of the lighthouse, Aruba because of the rock formations that are reminiscent of the Natural Bridge before it collapsed, and Hawaii.
What was also cool is that each day, when you logged on and went to the ship, you would go on a search for spinning golden circles that would give you furniture rewards with which to decorate the space. After collecting all the rewards, you would be rewarded a really cool tropical fish tank. I logged on a few days in a row and received maybe three items a day; then the holidays came around and I didn’t have time to log onto Home at all. When I was finally able to log on again, I went straight to my ship and didn’t find any spinning golden circles. This went on for several days, and I was at a loss for where my rewards were.
I decided to take matters into my own hands and looked up information about the Dream Yacht online; I read that the rewards were on a “thirteen day release timer” for the ship’s owners to collect all the rewards, and there might be days that you do not get anything. Furthermore, “not everyone receives the same rewards at the same time.”
Since I hadn’t logged on for thirteen days in a row, I felt kind of lost at sea, not knowing where I was in that thirteen-day cycle. It is now four months later, and I still don’t have all the rewards and the tropical fish tank. I feel like I am stuck in a neverending thirteen day reward cycle, and I am not sure if I am coming or going.
I’ve been feeling perplexed, wondering what I am doing wrong. I feel like I am stuck on Gilligan’s Island. As most people know, the show’s plot dealt with tourists who went on a boat trip that was supposed to take three hours but they ended up being marooned on a deserted island for several years.
The first time I saw the tropical fish tank, it was on display at the Lockwood Showcase back in December. When I saw it, I knew I wanted it and wanted to know where it was for sale. There was a hint about it being part of the Dream Yacht rewards so I figured I’d get it soon.
After waiting four months for it, I still don’t have it. I thought to myself if I was Lovey Howell that I would just ask my darling Thurston to buy it for me. I am sure I would have it in no time flat. He would have The Professor make a coconut phone and put a call for immediate shipment.
I also came up with another theory. Perhaps it has been Gilligan who keeps messing me up getting the fish tank. Maybe he accidentally dropped it overboard since he was always messing things up for The Skipper. I remember The Skipper used to always swat Gilligan with his hat when he messed up. Maybe it’s time he did it again.
The last theory I came up with is maybe it was Ginger. I have always had suspicions that she was a kleptomaniac, and maybe when she saw the spinning golden circles she took it for herself. She was always fascinated with glitzy things and jewelry!
The only person that I didn’t think about was MaryAnn. She always seemed so innocent and honest. But perhaps I should blame her for the missing fish tank. It’s always the quiet ones that get away with things. Hmm.
To me, this has become sort of a mini-game or quest with rare prizes that you may never get or have no timeframe of knowing when you might receive it. I guess in the end, I wish the rewards and furniture were downloadable, like they are for LOOT’s Space Station space, or unlockable like they are on Loco Island. I do love doing quests but when they take over four months to do it makes me feel like I will never finish!
I came up with a plan to get organized and see what I was still missing. I decided that I would print out a list of the thirty rewards that you can receive and then go into my inventory and place them all on the ship to see where I am at. It made me see I have a good portion of the rewards, but I am still missing the fish tank and a few others.
In ways, I feel like the Professor: he was always coming up with new plans and ways to try to get them all off the island. Had he had access to a computer he would have figured out a way to get Wi-Fi and had them home safely in a matter of days. Of course, Gilligan could have always messed that up to keep the show going longer.
Owning the fish tank to me is in ways almost like finally finishing a really hard level in an adventure game! I find watching fish swim around a tank and interacting is really relaxing and can take you deep in thought. It’s a good way to unwind and release stress. It’s cool to see all the different colors and types of fish. It’s also fun to watch the fish chase each other. It almost looks like they are playing tag, or maybe hide and seek. I always wonder what the fish think, see and know. After several months and several times logging on, I feel like The Dream Yacht has been marooned on Gilligan’s Island right next to the Minnow.
I have wondered if there were other Home players that are experiencing the same issue that I am. Don’t get me wrong: I think the Dream Yacht is one of the coolest spaces on Home, and richly deserving of its reward as AlphaZone4’s 2011 Estate of the Year. It’s spacious and has a lot of room to hang out with friends, and you can also be creative with decorating. When I hang with my friends on the boat I love sitting in the hot tub and enjoy taking in the scenery around me. I love that you can make the sky darker and see the stars. Whoever designed this space paid a lot of attention to detail, and to me it was worth all it cost. I just want to finish collecting and enjoying the rewards and make it back home from my four-month journey that was only supposed to take thirteen days.
Logically, I know I’m probably doing something wrong. Perhaps the answer may yet reveal itself. In any event, it provides a wonderful reason to keep revisiting a beautiful space.
Maybe the yacht just doesn’t work well for some people. I’ve never received a guest reward there.
Great article, I think I just coughed up a lung laughing, but I’ll be ok. A friend of mine with that space is having the same problem, he got it when it first came out but hasn’t got the fish tank yet.
The Gilligan’s Island thing was hilarious. Gilligan always seemed to mess things up, so maybe it was him who did the programming!
One more thing, My friend with the Dream Yacht calls it the S.S. Empty promise.
This is a fun read Rainbow, but I can’t figure out why you haven’t gotten all of your rewards. I got mine months ago as did all of the people I know with this yacht. Have you tried speaking with Sony? Have you tried the usual methods of deleting your cache and possibly the game data file on your XMB? It isn’t right that you shouldn’t have all of this stuff by now. Good luck in your hunt for the elusive fish tank.
that is a great idea from burbie, hun. if all else fails, go in your save files and find the dream yacht file and delete it. technically you should still have all your rewards youve collected, but on the same token, its always fun to search all over.
Have you thought about simply visiting your yacht every day for two weeks? That’s all it took for me to get all my furniture items from the space. Try to visit at roughly the same time every day, too.
Actually it resets everyday at 12 am GMT whatever that relates to in your time zone. Lockwood is in England, so going there anytime after thaty will have new rewards waiting.
I had the exact same problem, it took forever to get the last item but eventually I did get it. I simply and methodically logged on every day until at last it showed up.I love this space, though it is large and sort of hard to fill as your 100 items get swallowed up fast by the vast space. I even put fireworks off in the distance on the sand bar. Great readins’ and good luck with the fish tank.
