Home’s Forgotten Spaces #5: The Treehouse Apartment

by Keara22HI, HSM team writer and filmmaker

Making a Tarzan movie using the Treehouse Apartment in Home means interviewing some really hunky-looking guys in leopard-skin loincloths.

Yes, there are perks to being a filmmaker.

Well, what else would you fantasize about in that personal space?  How to get cable TV reception out there? So – with the challenge thrown down by our editor, I set about getting to the soul of this very unusual Home personal space. I tried a saga about a romance between a park ranger and a wood nymph. But it was shot down; miscegenation was too touchy a topic for PG-rated Home viewers.

Granted, were it up to Norse, I suspect a Treehouse film would involve people dressed like they’re going to a Renaissance Faire staring contemplatively out into the universe, while Engima’s “Sadeness” plays in the background and obscure haiku quotations float across the screen.

Bah. I’m an irreverent old woman. I want hunks in loin cloths.

So, we had a hot tub party with Tarzan, Jane, a ‘great white hunter’, and the tree nymph.  The ape showed up and was highly annoyed that he was left out of the tub. But, after all, with all that hair, you just knew he had fleas.  So with no captions at all, we used the avatars and the house itself to tell the story.  Definitely not what Edgar Rice Burroughs originally had in mind, but for Home’s denizens, this oughta work.

I had a lot of fun making this one Granny! The more you do these the better you are getting. Good job! With all of the personal spaces coming out and the amount now available there are quite a few that have gotten lost in the dust and it is good to bring them out into the public eye again.

Fun video Granny, I love the non violent way everybody ends up being happy. Weeeeee! That was a cool video, but one question: I too have that home, and was wondering if you have a massive termite problem too? Oh well. I actually bought that place out of boredom and was really pleased at the layout and look of it. It is so peaceful and pleasant. Once I passed the speedbump of how to decorate it, it sort of just fell into place and it has turned out to be a gem. Only complaint: I wish I could of been able to go out on the catwalks, but hey it’s still great and again a great video.

  3. It’s a lovely little space with upstairs and downstairs that has beautiful views.

The video is fun and the music (Martin Denny’s “Quiet Village”?), fits well. So… well done on the piece & video.
