Evolution: Sodium’s Secret
by Phoenix, HSM team writer and filmmaker
My Sodium machinima: Sodium’s community, and its desert’s secret. Maybe it’s true…maybe not.
Have you ever gone walking on the flats out there, where the rocks crop up in large formations? Have you been zapped back to the bar after you’ve gone so far? Maybe you’ve seen those warning signs out there in no man’s land… If you have, and you’ve gone on trying to reach the edges of the desert, you may have been lucky enough to come across a strange place there: the bunker!
Sodium — a desert wasteland on the vast, arid plains of Nevada. What goes on out there? Seemingly nothing. Just a little watering hole, by the name of Scorpio’s Bar. A little music spot and a lounge. A few places for pilots and civilians to relax. Some outer buildings and a training space. Nothing secret about that, everything above board…right? Right?
Yes, but there’s a bunker out there. Sodium’s secret. Out on the lonely salt plains is a hidden bunker. Why is it there? What secrets does it hold?
This inspired me to create a fictional history, told in snippets, of how we came to Sodium — how it’s all we have left. In no way should it be construed as canonical; it’s simply a fan film, inspired by the tantalizing clues Lockwood left for us in the desert.
To find out what happened: you have to go back. Back to the beginning. Back to when we saw our future disappearing. The bunker holds our last hope. Hope…that’s a funny word. Maybe I should say it holds our last move. If the time comes and they adapt and follow us here…it will be our last resort. No more them, no more us.
This is where we make our last stand. We fight and survive, or we fight and die.
I can still remember the way it was; before the change, before evolution skipped into madness. Pollution, radiation, pesticides, herbicides, all that crap…now here we stand on the brink of nothing!
It’s home for us now. Here is one of the last outposts of survivors. They haven’t followed us here…yet. They don’t like the heat, don’t like the dry salty plain. Its all we have left. This is our story.
Very cool Storm! Glad to see this!
Thank You Godzprototype,
I wasn’t sure it would make it for a moment. I’m glad it did.
WOW….sorry, just WOW
Thank you backarch.
Great job Phoenix on this video and your back story. When people say that this place we all come to is just a fantasy land and it holds no merit or any worth I have to point out to them that it produces great creativity in its users. This creativity comes out in many forms, be it fashion shows, art shows or machinima like yours and all of the other talented people in Home. I wish I had the technical capabilities to create these things, but for now I will stick with acting for it is something I know well. Once again this was a nice piece and I hope you do more.
Thank You Burbie,
I am pleased that this is being received so well. Sodium is one of my favorite spaces. It was one of the first places I was interested in when I came to Home. That hasn’t changed. I still go there and play around. I’ve paced my objectives so I still have some things to complete. lol.
very cool good use of the spaces in home only now i gota wait for part 2
Thanks capturedsoul,
I had such fun using the spaces. Home is a wonderful place for my mind to wander. I like to think I will be able to continue the story.
This is one of the best machinimas I have seen in Home. Absolutely great camera work! Brilliant.
Thank You Keara,
I am pleased with the way it turned out. As you know editing can be monstrous work. This was my first machinima. I usually work from photos, not animated media. This was a blast though. So thank you very much for your comment.
Loved it. You made a totally original story where there wasn’t a thread of one before and you used the dystopic areas well, like the Killzone CP. Very good work. (clap clap clap)
