The Jungle Book Comes to Life – Meet Tembo From Lockwood

by Terra_Cide, HSM Editor

In the past year or so, pets – indeed, companions in general – have really taken off in Home. It’s not just their popularity, but the sheer variety of companions available that is staggering. Want a cute puppy or adorable kitten? There’s almost as many to choose from as there are at your local pet shop. And then there’s all the robots, fairies, spaceships, insects, and knitted critters in between.

Just like users, the menagerie that accompany their respective owners one can witness on Home any given day truly can blow the mind. Remember when you were a kid and you dreamed of having exotic pets? Maybe it was that pet robot, or a unicorn, even a pet elephant. And that’s one of the beauties of Home – you can realize some of those more fantastic childhood imaginings. And now, you can at last have your very own elephant, courtesy of Lockwood.

Think back to some of the most well-known children’s literature – The Saggy Baggy Elephant, Horton Hears a Who, Babar, Dumbo, and pretty much everything by Rudyard Kipling. Our childhoods are filled with elephants, and whether it’s at the zoo or the circus, they leave an indelible impression on our psyche. Perhaps it’s because in them we see a bit of ourselves reflected back.

You’ve already seen Tembo, Lockwood’s baby elephant, as it was leaked to the community ahead of schedule. The information from Megan Egglesden, production manager at Lockwood, is as follows:

Ever visited the zoo and wished you could take a couple of cute animals home with you? Well, Lockwood’s zoologists have been hard at work to make that dream a reality! Tembo is a beautiful baby elephant in miniature. He’s incredibly cute with flapping ears and a waving trunk. He can even do a little trick, but you’ll have to be patient and watch him quietly to see him do it. Make room in your home and your heart for this adorable little guy!

As Home progresses, so do the developers that provide the virtual items, and we can begin to see how they are slowly finding their niches. While there will always be overlaps, there are the beginning signs of specialization. In Lockwood, we see a developer who has done a lot right. They have shrewdly mixed great gaming experiences with an in-world currency which can aid in the gaming experience, or buy other items. They have provided the means to give users the ability to gift items to their friends – something the community has asked for since the beginning. And as far as fashions go, it’s no secret that Lockwood is king.

And with Cucumber, they are attempting to do the same with furniture.

It’s very IKEA with bright colors and organic-inspired, pop art design; it’s the kind of furniture that catches your eye. And coming next week, you’ll be seeing more added to this line.
