Lockwood Announces the ShowOff New Year Party
by NorseGamer, HSM Editor-in-Chief
It’s not easy wearing a waistcoat.
No, really. You’ve seen my avatar. You’ve seen how I’m rarely without an Oxford collar and vest. There are certain looks you just have to own, and that’s mine. Never mind the naysayers. Never mind the merciless teasing. Never mind the fact that my fashion sense is stuck somewhere around 1985. By god, my pixels are smexy.
At least, that’s what I keep telling myself. Shaddap, Grotto.
I think the waistcoat is my personal stand against what I see as the shocking degradation of male fashion in this country, and particularly within Home. Perhaps it’s the relative youth of the population, but what on Earth is up with all the tank tops and this urban “thug” motif? Don’t these children understand that it’s basically impossible to talk about how “street” they are from the comfort of their parents’ living rooms? And no, wearing a chalk-stripe mobster suit doesn’t count as high fashion, either.
Were it up to me, I’d pile all of those rags in the middle of Comiskey Park and set fire to them while Huey Lewis’ “It’s Hip To Be Square” played in the background.
This is, perhaps, why I like thse Lockwood ShowOff competitions so much. It encourages Home’s population to be a bit more imaginative. Lockwood, LOOT and nDreams constitute the holy trinity of Home’s third-party developers, but it is Lockwood which has successfully implanted itself in the minds of Home’s citizens as a fashion house. This isn’t to take anything away from the wonderful outfits developed by anyone else; it’s simply that Lockwood has very overtly — and smartly — gone about setting itself up as the group to go to when you want to set yourself apart from the crowd. What, you thought that Lockwood fashion runway was just a gimmick?
The catch, of course, is how to create virtual raiments which maintain this trend, when so many people are buying your label; Versace, for instance, is a good label — but it’s forever linked with the indelible Miami Vice look it pioneered twenty-five years ago. Whereas Armani, on the other hand, has continuously stayed ahead of the curve.
At this point some troll in a tank top and red pants would say, “Y u no so much bout clothes ur gay.”
No, I’m not. I just care about how I look, as any proper man should. Grow up, child.
Lockwood also does an amazing job of engaging the Home community. Spend any time on the Sony forum and you’ll quickly discover that the desire for more developer-sponsored community events is an oft-repeated request. Granted, that forum is plagued by some rather toxic self-important idiocy coupled with a lack of business acumen, but the majority of the people there are quite pleasant. It is a testament to Lockwood’s deft PR skills that they have done a remarkable job of keeping virtually everyone happy for three years.
