For the Dragon Age Addict

by LadyShade, HSM guest contributor

Ah, the crisp clean smell of winter is in the air. Sleigh bells are ringing. Dreams of dragons and heroes and champions are dancing in our heads. All the Santa’s helpers are rushing about in search of the perfect gifts for those on their lists, but there’s always that one person – everyone’s got one on their list – that only wants a very specific item; for the sake of this article in this particular case, someone who is obsessed with Dragon Age. If you are one of those helpers that are at a loss on what to get that Dragon Age addict on their list, well fear not, this “Elf” has some great ideas for you!

First head over to the PlayStation Store, where you will find that Bioware has added two very nice pieces of downloadable content for Dragon Age 2. You can also find several “new” sets of weapons and gear that level up with your character. I know, you’re thinking why bother, at best it’s only going to be a PSN or two to get them – hardly something worth wrapping. But these items really are very nice gear that your addict will be sure to enjoy.

What’s that you say? They already purchased those items? Fear not, for this elf has other ideas that are sure to please any Dragon Age Addict. Just check out the list below.

David Gaider, the well known lead writer of the Dragon Age series, has two books out by Tor publishers, with a third due out December 20th (hey, look at that, just in time for Christmas!). They are as follows:

The Stolen Throne – a story about the young King Maric meeting a certain rogue named Loghain McTir and their adventures as they try to reclaim their country after Maric’s  mother, the beloved Rebel Queen, is betrayed and murdered.

The Calling - the sequel to The Stolen Throne, where the Grey Wardens need Maric’s help, and he reluctantly agrees to lead them into the passages he traveled through many years before, chasing after a deadly secret that will threaten to destroy not only the Grey Wardens, but also the Kingdoms above.

The new book is called Asunder; it’s a story about A mystical killer stalks the halls of the White Spire, the heart of templar power in the mighty Orlesian Empire. To prove his innocence, Rhys (the son of Wynne) reluctantly embarks on a journey into the western wastelands that will not only reveal much more than he bargained for but will change the fate of his fellow mages forever. This is a must have book for all those out there that love Shale.

All three books can be had in both book and ebook format.

There is also a comic book out by Chris Priesly and IDW Publishing that features a story about Templars and Mages. I understand that this series can now be found on iTunes, Amazon and Barnes and Nobles in both book and eReader formats. I’ve been told that it’s also available for the PSP, but I’ve not been able to locate it. This comic can also be found at your local comic book store.

If your addict is into weapons, then head over to Epic Weapons (epicweapons.com) where they have Dragon Age weapons (Grey Warden, Darkspawn and the DA2 Staffsword), letter openers (Grey Wardens and Darkspawn) and Dragon Age 2 coasters and pendants. If they are into figurines, the Bioware Store is taking pre-orders for a Flemeth dragon statue that looks pretty cool, as well as T-Shirts.

Also coming in 2012:

There’s a new comic series starting in Febuary 22, 2012 and will be a biweekly publication for six weeks in digital format by Darkhorse Comics. This will feature Varric, Isabela and everyone’s favorite Alistair as they travel to Antiva in search of information on Alistair’s past. I’ve been told that within the story they will explain the nature of dragons, as well as to give us Lore that was left out in both games, but will answer many a fan’s burning questions.

Also due to be released March 2012 will be an Anime Movie entitled Dragon Age: Dawn of the Seeker. The story is about Cassandra Pentaghast, who investigates a conspiracy in the Chantry and eventually becomes a Seeker. Orlais and Kirkwall are visited, in addition to new locations. For more information you can go to: funimation.com. They have a trailer made from concept art available for viewing. I understand this will be available on DVD and Blueray.

I’ve also been told we can expect more downloadable content for Dragon Age 2 in 2012 to keep up the fan interest until Dragon Age 3 comes out sometime in 2013 or early 2014.

So from this Elf to all of you in Home: Have a merry Dragon Age Holiday!

I’m ridiculously addicted to Dragon Age; even though it uses the same BioWare formula seen elsewhere (most notably in the first KOTOR title), the execution is so good that I don’t mind.

Any other Dragon Age fans out there? I like the dual-dagger rogue build, personally.

Welcome to the fold LadyShade! Glad to see you finally here at HSM. I too have played all the way through Dragon Age 1 and 2 as well as Awakenings, and I loved them all. Though I don’t really consider myself an addict,I thoroughly enjoyed playing all of them and I know several of my friends are very into it.
This is a great and informative article about what is to come and what is available out there for people to gift others, and perfect timing for Christmas too.
I love the way that Bioware is consistently adding new content to keep the game fresh while we wait for the new releases, and I have never really heard of any other game spawning books, comics and now a movie before. Smart idea to keep a client base happy.
Great first article, I am proud to call you my friend.
