HomeStation Presents: The Upload, Episode #18

by Jersquall, HSM Podcast Editor

We ran a traffic analysis report on HSM, and the results were amazing: of the hundreds of stories published under the HomeStation flag, our podcast series, The Upload, has brought in a ridiculous amount of traffic. It only represents about three percent of the total content on the website, but it’s responsible for more than *eleven* percent of our unique visitors!

Needless to say, The Upload is a hit. Like a Bar Refaeli poster or a Gerard Butler film, some things just stand out from the rest.

Along the way, we’ve learned a few things. One of the biggest insights we’ve received is that our shorter podcasts generate more traffic. This is a challenge because we all care deeply about Home, and thus we have a lot of words to tumble out. Further, we tackle some pretty heavy social issues, and these take time to fully explore. One does not simply rock into Mordor.

HSM never shies away from challenges, though. Like SAS commandos storming an embassy, the HomeStation team just gets the job done. And so, we’re proud to present to you our new podcast format:

Each episode will only cover one discussion topic, and it will average about fifteen minutes in length. No more having to wade through an hour of pontification to find that one bit of conversation that made you laugh or piqued your curiosity. The old podcast format served you rice and beans with your enchiladas; the new format just keeps the enchiladas coming, because at HSM, there’s always enchiladas.

For our first episode under this new format, the Upload team takes a look at Juggernaut’s Cutteridge Estate. Slightly higher-priced than an average estate — but absolutely jampacked with cool features — it’s an enchilada served with a basket of chips and that really tasty salsa that you keep asking for refills on.

So: kick back with Norse, Jers and Terra as they explore the Home that goes bump in the night…

Play that funky music, white boy!

Nice job guys. I like the estate as you know and I am glad they are updating as I heard they are. I hope this becomes a trend in Home, it will make me consider buying more spaces in the future, even at a slightly elevated price. I decorated mine in a traditional way, I only wish we had more furniture allotted as it is a large place to fill. Great new format, but I will miss having a longer time to chat with you the next time I am in a podcast. I hope this strategy works out like you want it to.

Contacted Apple, but they have not responded (contacted them about 3 months ago).
They have our feed, they just aren’t updating it on iTunes. Absolutely no idea why not.

    • Cubehouse says:

In fact, just go to Advanced -> Subscribe to podcast and type in http://www.hsmagazine.net/feed/podcast/ and it’ll work fine.
Seriously, iTunes absolutely messed up podcasting back in February. Ever since they have ignored our communications and refused to bring back the “ping” feature that allowed us to update the feed. As you can clearly see by manually adding the feed, it works perfectly. Wish there was more I could do. But, Apple are the apparent Gods of technology and we’re not worthy of their time, which is far better served suing people who draw clouds.

    • Cubehouse says:

An update, I spend the last couple of days sending emails to iTunes (who btw, are absolutely hopeless).
They refused to fix anything and just told me it wasn’t possible to modify the URL they have stored of our feed so it updates properly.
SO. I’ve done some rather insane hackery on our end to do some URL redirect tricks with some odd XML tags in our feed and I reckon it will trick iTunes into updating the feed now. Was a lot of work and I will now uninstall iTunes as I would quite like to punch whoever is now in charge of Apple in the testicles.

Ok Everybody! I’m all up to date with listening to the Upload!….I love it love it love it!!!!!….Jers…Terra and our ever intrepid Norse! Thanks for Giving us the lowdown on the Cutteridge Place…I’m going to be buying More spaces soon..I own 3 with the studio included! :)…I even own the Tycoon Penthouse…omg! it might as well be the Space Needle lol…One issue I’d like to see discussed is this very recent uproar about how Loot Gear decided to do an update (which was good in my opinion) to the EOD in the Stahl House…

Everybody who owned that space was all up in arms over how they had lost item spots and that losing the baked in furnishings was a bad thing…I myself was just telling a friend this weekend how I wished they would have left the space empty so I could decorate it the way I wished…and lo and behold IT WAS GRANTED!…The house was empty and I went CRAZY!!!! :)…Plus the furniture that was taken was given back free…

The only drawback if it is one was the theatre screens weren’t working right but I guess are being worked on…I’d like to find out if anybody had thoughts about it yay or nay..

    Once again guys!…GREAT SHOW!
