The Nathan Drake Outfit Opens Fire On Home

by NorseGamer, HSM Editor-in-Chief

You may have noticed a growing trend towards outfits which have custom emotes and gesticulations.

The PlayStation Move outfit, if I recall correctly, had some “sword swiping” animations built into it. Lockwood’s MechJets can jump, somersault, create forcefields, and transform. The Ford Fusion outfit keeps you dancing until it looks like you’re having a fit.

It’s an interesting marketing ploy, this. Anyone who’s spent any time looking through the Sony forum (or, heck, just the pages of HSM) knows that a greater range of avatar expression is one of the most common requests out there. The catch is that you have to buy some specialized outfit to get it — when the holy grail, of course, is a core client update that introduces a range of new movements for our regular avatars (even if such movements were then made available as for-purchase add-ons).

Normally I wouldn’t dash off an article on something this mundane, except this particular outfit has something rather interesting. Take a look at this video, created by HSM Podcast Editor Jersquall:

What’s the number one thing that stands out?

I’ll wager your answer is the same as mine: this outfit contains a specialized emote in which you unholster a firearm and open fire.

Now, granted, it’s not like this is an earthshattering leap forward in technology. It’s really no different than what the female MechJets can do with blades. Yet for some reason this one seems different, somehow. Perhaps because the Uncharted series is such a blockbuster, and as a result there’s a greater chance of seeing all these Nathan Drakes running around in Home, like so many Agent Smiths? Perhaps because I can just picture various fams trying to have mass shootouts in the Hub (which is silly, because there’s no hit detection programmed into this)? Perhaps because it gives Home machinimists an opportunity to show someone firing a gun, which might come in handy for a dramatic scene?

You could be my assistant. Would you like that? Would you like to ride with Batman?

I can’t really put my finger on why this outfit is striking a different chord with me. I just have a sense that it’s going to sell well. What the community chooses to do with it is ultimately up to them, but as an outfit, empirically, it’s quite well done. And that’s a pretty awesome video by Jers, isn’t it? The guy runs HOMEinformer, edits The Upload, consistently produces films about Home which benefit the community AND does a whole bunch of stuff as a Home Community Volunteer.

(I’m tellin’ ya…he IS Batman.)

Which brings me to the point of this little article. You might want this outfit. And HSM happens to have codes for it. The first code has been hidden somewhere in one of the articles on the front page of this website. It’s a single-use code, so whomever finds it and uses it first gets to have it.

If you miss out, don’t despair! Tomorrow, a new code will be hidden somewhere in HSM’s front page. And another one the day after that. Just keep your eyes peeled for when we announce the new one is up. Happy hunting!

UPDATE: All three codes have been found and redeemed. Thanks for playing!
