HomeStation Presents: The Upload, Episode #8
Do you think a little thing like the Great PSN Outage of 2011 is going to stop us? Ha!
Though Home may be down, the Home community is still quite alive and well — and in this episode of The Upload, the HomeStation gang takes a look at the sociological ripple effects of Home being offline.
This edition of The Upload brings a slight change of faces to the table, as we have HSM’s copy editor, Terra_Cide, and Homeling Commander SealWyf joining Jersquall and Norse for another round of intellectual insanity. The discussion includes such nail-biter questions as:
- Does Sony somehow “owe” its patrons something, despite its gargantuan losses? (Answer: no.)
- How do well-established Home groups survive and cope when Home itself is offline?
- Do extraterrestrials play Scrabble?
- What does a dose of NyQuil do to a teetotaler?
These hard-hitting questions, and more, on The Upload #8!

Great job as usual guys! I loved that you had Terra and Sealwyf on. They are a delightful addition to the Pod. It was good to hear their voices finally! I have gotten to know Terra in the chat room on the magazine since the outage. It has become a kind of haven for many of us as we wait out this outage and it has allowed us to get to know each other and others who have come in as well, like the Lochwoods and Drift and Marlboro Man. Like I said in my article in some ways this has been a good thing because it has made us become productive at the magazine and elsewhere and it has also made us realize just how fragile some of the things we hold dear can be. This will always cause us to appreciate what we have more and that is always a good thing. Thanks for a fun listen, and watch that Nyquil consumption Norse! LOL
Thank You Burbie it has been nice talking with all of you sense the outage.I have idea to contribute, and i cannot wait ill i get a chance to hear episode 8.
Very good show thank ya’ll (lol yes ima country boy),.. 1 correction is the outage started on April 20th not the 22nd, in my time zone anyway (Georgia) hope i didnt step on any toes by pointing that out ¦^),.. very nice to hear something besides the gripping on the blog/forum, as for the video games being good/bad for kids, personally my niece has developmental problems & the Sonic games have taught her alota new words & even her speech therapist said to continue to find her more games w/ alota talkn or simple phrases in them, but as w/ anything moderation is the key,.. Sealwyf good luck w/ your new project, Norse limit the nyquil to a bottle a day lol maybe 2, Jersqaul cya on twitter until the GREAT PSN REBOOT 2011 (hopefully soon) then we’ll all be HOME bound ¦^) ,.. GREAT SHOW GUYS glad some are staying positive throughout this down time, keep up the great work
oh yea lol, as for the keeping in touch w/ friends during the outage, grrr i only have 2 friends i’ve kept in touch w/ & its because they’re on my facebook page, husband & wife (Clio-Mouse & BluBear) , i was a dill hole & never added people to my other forms of communication, but i did some what know Jersqaul & Sophronia before the outage & have since started following them on twitter lol substitute HOME till this mess is resolved, again great show & i’m looking forward to the next issue of HSM & the podcast, lol curious to see how i faired in the poetry contest, take care guys
Nice job (as usual). Mentionings of dead frogs sparks big thirst… too bad it’s only 8:36AM here

Am totally itching to visit Home and hang out with the Homelings in the realm in which we so love
It’s 5 o’clock somewhere Nos. It’s 5 o’clock somewhere.
I love Jimmy Buffet too Terra! lol
Terra and Sealwyf were perfect and awesome guests! Personally, I enjoyed this Podcast because it seemed more.. Human? Well, There was a Homeling among us so I’ll just say it had a more relaxed and friendly feel to this episode of the Upload.
Thanks for listening everyone.
This episode definitely had a more relaxed feel to it; we tend to do very heavy discussions about a multitude of issues, and this time we had a lot less on the agenda to cover — which left more time for personal tangents. Maybe we should experiment further with this sort of format…?
For the record, I had been awake working for 38 hours straight and collapsed on my sofa out-cold. Not fixing the PSN
ROFL Cubes!!!
That’s his cover story, folks.
Well, maybe it’s true; if Cubes had been on the job, the PSN would have been back last week.
Ooh? So you were “fixing” something else then?
Does this mean that -- *gasp* -- Mike was correct?! :O
Nice podcast all! I was listening at my desk at work and my co-workers wanted me to turn it up so they could hear it too! I had to explain what a Homeling was…..
On another note, someone in the podcast mentioned about checking their credit reports. As I understand it from reading the letter that SONY wrote yesterday, they will be providing credit services to those who had credit cards on file so no need to worry about the big 3 free ones (which are always a good thing too). Also, you do not have to worry about checking all 3 at once as stated in the podcast. It will not lower your score.
When your credit is checked, this creates what is known as an “inquiry.”
There are two types of inquiries on credit reports:
A Soft Inquiry
A Hard Inquiry
When you check your own credit report, this is known as a “soft” inquiry and it will not affect your credit score whatsoever. You can check your credit all you want and your score will not be impacted.
When you apply for credit, whether it’s a mortgage or refinance, car loan, credit cards, or any of a number of applications for financing, this creates what is knows as a “hard” inquiry and this will lower your score slightly. Too many different credit applications over a short period of time can lower your credit score significantly, so don’t over-apply for credit.
Nice to know, Eli. Thanks!
Thanks for making it all more clear. It’s a little difficult remembering everything on the spot.
Aloha, I really enjoyed this!!!! I will be sure to bring more popcorn and beer for the next one..This was my first one to hear..Is there an archive of these?? \m/
Yes there are, if you look at the navigation bar just below the HSM logo, you will see the link to the older podcasts as well as our videos.
