HSM OFFERS HELP: SO HOW DO YOU COMPETE IN THIS CONTEST:
Let’s start with creativity: anyone can wear something off the rack from the store. That’s not very creative. No imagination needed – just the cash to buy the clothes. But the person who can create a combination that looks even better than the originals gets noticed. Here’s a quick example of combining items from different outfits to make one complete “look”:
Note that PixieTails crated a whole mood with a creative combination of a Little Big Planet hoodie, a Lockwood Skirt, and Lockwood socks.
Also – notice the pose in front of a mirror. And how well the mirror shows off both sides of that outfit at the same time.
This is a fashion picture that is so well composed, it could be in Seventeen Magazine as a professional shot.
Also notice how the dark red dots in the skirt pick up the dark red paint spill on the hoodie while the socks tie in with the black bracelets and the black trim on the skirt.
If the mirror picture were just a tad clearer you would also see the hair with the dark red matching bow.
This is a masterful piece of work. Congratulations, PixieTails. I can hardly wait to see what you create for the contest.
Next: not only should your costume be creative, your choice of location should reflect the mood of the costume. For example, if you are wearing one of those gorgeous IREM kimonos, would you do the picture in the Hot Shots Golf space? No, I didn’t think so. And if it is beachwear, are you going for a scenic personal space beach or pool area? Or even a hot tub in a Manhattan penthouse?
The best example I ever saw of this concept was a photo shoot Joanna did in the Pharaoh’s Tomb personal space. She combined the best pieces of several Egyptian costumes and positioned herself on the terrace looking out over the Nile. Men’s wear should be easy to find good locations with all the action mini-games in Home not to mention military barracks, Batman cave, and other testaments to testosterone. Or the surfer dude at Red Bull Beach looking totally rad might win it.
Here’s my friend Anubis the Great making a fashion statement. This is not a picture you glance at and turn the page. It takes some time to take it all in and see it the way he envisioned it. I am not a fan of those shoes with that tux, but – hey, the man does it his way. And that is what a photo contest is all about: creativity, vision, and panache.
Next major consideration is picture composition. Stand up straight, chin up, look directly in the camera, hands at your sides = LOSE! You need to create a pose that says something about that fashion. Unfortunately, most of the default poses in Home have been done to death. One more ‘model’ pose with butt out, chest up, and hand clutching the back of the head and I promise I will barf.
Try dance moves that fit the costume. Make a statement about the character, the location, and the clothes with a picture that looks like it could jump off the page. Here’s DarthGranny rocking out in the London Pub in her version of the Artful Dodger from “Oliver”.
This is a combination of the ‘freebie’ hat from Irem Beach, the costume top from Costumes and the skirt with tights from Threads. Finishing the look are the white go-go dancer boots from the bunny costume, the Lockwood purse, and a rock ‘n roll dance move.
If you want some great ideas for poses you can create using the default moves and dance steps in Home, have fun experimenting. Taking pictures in Home is free – expect to take 50 pictures to get one that you think is good enough to use.
And, if you want some help, HSM fashion photo workshops will take place on Wednesday, June 1 through Sunday, June 5 at 9 PM Eastern (6 PM Pacific) starting at Darth Granny’s Harbour Studio Apt. and moving to a range of different locations including the Mansion interior and pool, the new Blaster space, the Aurora Tree House space on June 1. The Hollywood Hills House, the Japanese Apartment, and the Lake House on June 2. On June 3, shooting will once again assemble at the Harbour Studio Apartment and then move to the Tropical Escape, the Waterfall Terrace House, and the Anime Personal Space. Sites for June 4 and June 5 to be announced.
If you want a wide variety of locations to use for your photos and help with wardrobe combinations and poses, just send a Friend Request to DarthGranny in Home. Let her know which date you want to be invited.
That’s very nice of you granny to open your apartments and going through the time and effort of juggling your friends list for this.
Woooooooooo (O_O) NICE PHOTOS!!!!!! Excellent, I’d love to watch you strut (Bob Seger)
