Remember when HomeStation Magazine started?

No one knew who we were. No one knew what we were about.

There was, frankly, a lot of unspoken skepticism: sure, it’s easy to talk big and dream bigger, but it’s quite another thing to pull off a successful Home fan group. And, to be fair, we laid out one hell of a mission statement: to be the nonpareil source of literate and mature journalism devoted to Home and PlayStation in general. To be a source of unique stories which couldn’t be found anywhere else.

Oh, and we’d have new content every single day.

The collective thud you just heard was the entire Home community collapsing in laughter last year.

Home’s full of kids. There’s no appetite for a serious examination of Home’s social issues. Nobody will read it. You can’t motivate and hold onto the level of talent you’re looking for. Home’s just a game.

We heard every quick criticism out there. And then, after our first issue, inevitably people started saying that we were just a flash in the pan, that we’d fold up shop and call it a day.

Some of this cynicism is understandable. After all, how many truly successful Home fan projects are there? For every AlphaZone4 or PlayStation Home Today, you’ve got a road littered with the chicanes of failed fan projects.

HomeStation Magazine, however, has proven itself.

A stable team. A new story every day. Multiple magazine issues. A covetous Alexa ranking. An audience of Home citizens and developers alike. And, if I may be so bold, a certain swagger. Not an arrogance, mind you, but a certain quiet confidence that comes from consistently delivering an outstanding product.

And now we’re asking you to join us. Join the HomeStation Magazine team.

There are several reasons to do so.

1. Girls. Have you seen some of the girls who write for HSM? Terra_Cide, SealWyf, Burbie52, Kozfear, Cynella, Keara, Olivia_Allin, LilBlueEyes, IrishSiren, Queen_Eli and beyond? Sitting in a HomeStation production meeting is like being surrounded by Michio Kaku fembots: they’re wicked smart, beautiful, and they know how to pack a punch.

2. Audience. It’s, like, substantial.

3. Salary plus benefits, including company-matched 401(k) plans. Okay, this one’s not true, but it sounded good. We do have pita chips and hummus, though.

Seriously, though: if you’re reading this, then chances are you already know what HomeStation is all about. We’re a Sony-positive and Home-positive publication devoted to being the resource for unique and entertaining journalism that makes you think. And now we’re asking you to join us. If you want to be a part of a proven Home fan project that has already attracted quite a bit of attention, then now truly is the time to let your voice be heard.

(In terms of time commitment to HSM, by the way, it’s really not that much. Seriously, just ask the existing team members.)

Here are the two areas we’re looking to expand right now:

A. Team Writers. Only once before have we ever put the call out for more voices — because we have such a strong team already, and frankly we are picky as to whom we choose — and thus this is a rare opportunity to join the HSM team. In terms of commitment, we ask for as little as two articles per month, with a minimum 900-word count for each submission. While we have no production deadlines per se, it is expected that work be submitted in a timely and consistent manner.

B. Layout Artists. Layout artists report to MJG74, HSM’s art director, and are directly responsible for the layout of our magazine issues. Please note that all candidates for this position must be versed in Adobe InDesign, and do have production deadlines to meet.

For all candidates: we ask that you be an upstanding Home citizen if you choose to work under the HSM umbrella. This doesn’t mean you have to be pollyannaish about everything, of course, but HomeStation Magazine is not a platform for venting personal invective, either.

If you’re worried that you need multiple college degrees and a letter from David Cameron’s coalition to qualify for HomeStation, please rest assured that that is not the case. While there are a remarkable number of college degrees and résumé credits behind the HSM team, what matters most is maturity and work ethic.

Now, that said, don’t think that it’s all work and no play. I’ve included a brief video of a typical HSM production meeting so you can get a sense of what it’s like to work with us.

HomeStation Magazine is a magazine by the Home community and for the Home community, and we invite you to add your voice to its pages. We hope you’ll join us on this journey.

Love this Norse, and the video isn’t far off from reality either! We all love working at the magazine and I think we are truly becoming the voice of Home. There is such diversity in our group, and we have become more than a bunch of talented writers, we have become a family who is dedicated to the magazine’s continued success and to the success and growth of the Home community as well. And truth be told a lot of the credit goes to you and Mike and Cubehouse and your dogged determination to turn out a quality product. I hope all of those reading this consider trying to write or show their artistic abilities and help us to ensure that Home Station Magazine continues, for the good of all the people in Home.

    “…Michio Kaku fembots”

That one bit is, by far, the funniest thing I’ve heard all day :>

  3. SORROW-83 says:

hum, indesign cost around 1000 euro……….

    so sorry!

  4. SORROW-83 says:

and what about scribus 1.4? it’s an open source alternative to indesign available on linux, window and mac?

    • Cubehouse says:

The cost of InDesign has been brought up previously as it is a massive barrier to getting more layout artists involved.
Thank you for the Scribus suggestion! Shall investigate and report to the team if it’s a sensible solution (I freakin’ love open source too)

I have only been a frequent visitor to home for 4 1/2 months but sought out every opportunity. Ive been intrigued to the fullest extent and as a result presently have 4 accounts! Many web sights are dedicated to home although home magazine successfully represents home’s value and preserves its personal attachment. So i would especially like to thank you for all your efforts and support. You will see me soon once i acquire a keyboard lol

  8. KLCgame says:

I am interested, I have a fair amount of experience in InDesign and I would not have much of a problem doing two articles a month. Please contact me for an interview.

  9. CheekyGuy says:

Im very honored and extremely lucky to be working for the magazine. I had originally set my sights on working for a gaming publication but had never had the credentials. There is no entry requirements to come here, you just have to show a desire for writing and gaming and some understanding of the Home Community.

Good luck and hope to see you at the next meeting :)
