one-page course description

Variations of Sex & Gender:
Six Phenomena Frequently Confused

Both popular thinking and scientific discourse
are often confused about the following six separable facts about human beings:

SESSION ONE:

    1. Biological sexes
genetically-given differences between males and females

and the social implications of being female, male, or intersex.

    2. Male/female self-designations
our self-concepts as boy/girl, man/woman, or transsexual.

SESSION TWO:

    3. Sex-roles
different behaviors expected because of being male or female.

    4. Gender-personalities
personal traits often associated with being 'masculine' or 'feminine'

SESSION THREE:

    5. Sexual orientations
heterosexual, homosexual, or bisexual.

    6. Cross-dressing
reasons for wearing the clothes of the other sex.

FACILITATOR:

The leader of this seminar is James Park,
the author of Variations of Sex & Gender: Six Phenomena Frequently Confused,
which is the basic printed resource for this seminar.
He also also written another book in sexology:
Imprinted Sexual Fantasies: A New Key for Sexology,
which is used for another seminar.

Because potential participants in either seminar
should rightly be skeptical of the motives of anyone who teaches about sex,
a comprehensive discussion of such worries appears here:
Skeptical Questions for Anyone Who Offers a Class on Sex.

During his long career in alternative adult education,
he has led about 200 different discussion groups.
Most of these were in the Minnesota Free University.
