Ivica Antunović
at Dallas Record Shop
Hiding behind –
Low-Life
by NewOrder (1985)
A computer engineer by training, Ivica Antunović, 34, opted
for what he calls “career suicide” by working in a record shop.
“Dallas is a rare example of a store that has reinvented itself
through vinyl,” he says of the shrewdly curated racks of
reissued classics and new releases. Selling a record to a true
enthusiast gives him as much pleasure as bagging a prize
acquisition himself. “I ordered an album by legendary New
York punks The Dead Boys, wondering whether I should buy
it myself or put it out in the racks. When a Stooges fan came
in and bought it on impulse, it felt like some kind of victory.”
Antunović plays bass in songstress Nina Romić’s band,
performing under the name Poručnik Naranča (Lieutenant
Orange). “I was once in an indie band whose members had to
have ranks,” he explains, “and for some reason mine stuck.”
