“There’s something special about tracking down a vinyl album.
You don’t get the same satisfaction from music that can be
downloaded in a click.” So says student Jelena Pintarić, 29,
who has been collecting for as long as she can remember.
“What I buy depends on what’s available on which format,”
she says. “I’ve certainly never bought vinyl simply because it
was fashionable.” She picked up her most recent purchase
(a Tangerine Dream reissue) at Aquarius, a high-street store
that has begun to plant vinyl releases in among the CD racks
in response to a growing tide of interest in the format. Her
proudest acquisition is an original copy of Can’s
Tago Mago
,
bought at a Sunday street market. She listens to “everything
from Nick Cave to Wagner. I always thought I would end up
listening to jazz, but I think I’ll leave that until I’m a bit older.”
