TECHNOLOGIST ACCREDITATION
Professional Accreditation of Nuclear Medicine Technologists began in Australia in 1975 following a Direction by the ANZSNM to ensure that a certain standard of practice was maintained. Since then over 800 Technologists in Australia and New Zealand have been granted Accreditation by the Society. Accreditation is professional recognition of Tertiary study in Nuclear Medicine along with 12 months postgraduate training in an Approved workplace.
Accreditation states to any prospective employer that the person holding this has met the minimum standard required by the ANZSNM for a practicing NMT in Australia. Graduands who are granted Accreditation receive a certificate of Accreditation from the Society.
PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT YEAR (PDY) AND MENTORS
The Accreditation Board's guidelines require that all university graduates who have successfully completed their course must undertake an approved PDY to obtain accreditation by the Society.
The purpose of the Professional Development year is to instill in the graduate Technologist an understanding of the professionalism required of an ANZSNM Accredited Technologist and the role that a technologist has in the practice of Nuclear Medicine and the health care environment.
Upon successful completion of an approved course of study and commencement of work in an Accreditation Board approved workplace, applicants must apply to the Accreditation Board for entry into the Professional Development Year (PDY) programme. ANZSNM technologist Accreditation is granted at the successful completion of the PDY programme. Accreditation Board
