Australian and New Zealand Society of Nuclear Medicine

The ANZSNM supports Quality Control programs by setting procedures and minimum requirements for instrument performances.

Quality Control

Minimum standards and developing quality control procedures for Nuclear Medicine instrumentation in Australia and New Zealand are set by the Technical Standards Sub-committee of the ANZSNM.

Technical Standards

Below is a list of relevant documents and reports which are maintained by the Technical Standards Committee

Nuclear Medicine Equipment

Dose Calibrators

Positron Emission Tomography

Phantom Resources

The ANZSNM Physics SIG is the custodian of the a set of NEMA-NU2-2001 phantoms for PET QC mesaurements. These may be borrowed, with the user covering the cost of transport and insurance. Contact Stefan Eberl for further details.

ANZSNM Software Validation Programme

The ANZSNM Software Validation Programme is a voluntary programme wherein Nuclear Medicine Practices are invited to test their data processing tools and skills against a national consensus. It is based on a strikingly similar exercise conducted in the United Kingdom by the IPEM over the past few years [refs].

A number of the IPEM data sets have been made available to the ANZSNM for the purposes of conducting this exercise. These may be downloaded using the links provided below. Each data set includes a collection of images and a form for recording results.

The data sets may be used for:

  • Internal training (eg of new staff)
  • Testing of existing software and new software releases
  • Participation in national and international audit and self-assessment programmes

While not all studies will have "gold standard" clinical results to compare against, the IPEM assessment process has produced a consensus result for each study by pooling results from many sites and systems.

Practices that wish to participate in our own national self-assessment programme should complete one or more feedback forms for each data set and return it to the Software Validation Coordinator. These forms will be anonymised and the data pooled to establish both a national consensus and provide a basis of comparison with IPEM results. More detailed information is provided with each of the downloaded data sets.

Correspondence, including completed feedback forms, should be directed to:
