5.4 Google Drive uploading objects to the Polar Cloud

If you have an .stl object file in Google Drive, then from Google Drive you may “Open with >” “Polar Cloud” to load the object to the Polar Cloud build plate (and to your collection of “MY OBJECTS”).4

First you will need to connect the Polar Cloud app to your Google Drive. In Google Drive, you may right click on an object file that you wish to upload to the Polar Cloud; then select “Open with >”, and (if “Polar Cloud” is not yet an option) then click “Connect more apps”;5 see Figure 5.31.

At the Google Drive “Connect apps to Drive” screen, search for the Polar Cloud app, and then click the blue “CONNECT” button; see Figure 5.32.

After clicking “CONNECT”, you should see a confirmation screen, as shown in Figure 5.33, at which you also have the (recommended) option to make the Polar Cloud the default app for Google Drive to use when opening .stl files.

Now that you have the “Polar Cloud” app connected to your Google Drive, Figure 5.34 shows opening the Google Drive file finalraptornormaltail.stl with the Polar Cloud, to load the object to the Polar Cloud build plate.

As the object is loading to the Polar Cloud, first you will see a Polar Cloud empty screen, as shown in Figure 5.35. Wait for the object to finish loading,6 and when the Google Drive upload completes, you will see the object loaded to the build plate screen, as shown in Figure 5.36.

If an object uploaded into the Polar Cloud from Google Drive is from an outside source, be sure to enter any appropriate credit and license information on the object’s management page. Select the object (click on the object tile at the “OBJECTS” screen) and then at the object detail screen click the “EDIT” button to get to the object management page where you may enter relevant information; see for example Figure 5.37. Click the “SAVE” button to save any changes, and then the “DONE” button to return to the object detail screen.

4Alternatively, from the Polar Cloud “OBJECTS” screen you may choose to “UPLOAD”, selecting the file(s) from Google Drive, as discussed in Section 5.3.

5For an alternate method to connect the Polar Cloud app to your Google Drive, in Google Drive you may right click the “My Drive” icon, select “More”, and then click “Connect more apps”.

6Navigating to another Polar Cloud screen during the Google Drive upload will interrupt that upload and it will not complete! This is unlike the Polar Cloud’s own object “UPLOAD”, during which you may navigate to other screens and perform other Polar Cloud tasks while an upload completes.
