The arrival of a whole new range of species to Panama City Beach during spring is a welcome surprise. You'll find even more species joining them in summer.
Redfish are the most commonly caught fish in these waters. These trophy chances are great at any season, even during the winter. The chances of landing this trophy are high if there is a constant supply of Speckled Trout or Sheepshead.
These shallow waters are often navigated by guides drifting and casting lures. Even when fighting larger predators such as Tarpon or small Sharks, you can expect to use light tackle. Fly fishing is an option for more experienced fishermen who can catch almost all the fish in these waters.
Tarpon fishing has been our favorite fishing method. Each year we look forward to the tarpon movement. In Northwest Florida, the tarpon migration usually takes place from May to August. The best months are June and July. Tarpon are extraordinary fish. They can reach 70 to 200 lbs. The sight of these fish swimming in schools is an amazing experience! Imagine being able to see them perform their tricks as they leap and jump across the water. It is an exciting experience.

Fines. Fishing in Florida without a license is a level one violation under Section 379.354 of the Florida statutes and considered a noncriminal infraction. Level one violations involving fishing license requirements carry a civil penalty equal to the cost of the license plus $50.

Night fishing in the surf is almost a must in highly populated areas, especially from Memorial Day to Labor Day. In many areas, most surf anglers are forced to fish at night in the summer. During the daytime there are too many bathers and they chase the surf anglers away from the best spots.
