Internet Memes: The Best, The Worst, And The Weird

Sometimes, the endless idea factory of the Internet produces some seriously weird crap. These Internet memes are ones that came from a totally insane place to become bizarrely popular. Let's look deeper into the abyss.

Internet memes make the world go round. More specifically, the Internet world. How fun would message boards be without funny picture, cat videos and idiotic sayings? None, that's how much. But, for every hilarious meme that we lose our minds over, there is an equally weird meme that we have no idea how it came to be. The Internet is a mysterious machine and, thanks to Internet memes, it is also a terrifying cesspool of nonsense. Make sure you're up to par on these bad boys before you get owned.

241543903

This totally bizarre little Internet meme sprung up out of intense boredom, just as most of the good stuff on the Internet does. The rules are simple: open your freezer door. Put your head in it. Take a picture. Upload that picture to Flickr, Photobucket or whatever image sharing site you desire, and tag it with the number "241543903." The end result is hundreds of mysterious images, all associated with that seemingly innocuous number, just waiting for some poor conspiracy theorist to discover.

Coneing

Pranks are a long-running motivator behind Internet meme development, but the fad of "coneing" is taking things a step too far. The process is simple: order a single soft-serve ice cream cone at a drive-through. Then, when the person behind the window hands you the cone, grab the ice cream part, not the cone part. Eat backwards in front of them, watching their horrified reactions. This meme is already starting to overtake the similarly idiotic "planking," spawning T-shirts and more.

Ever Dream This Man?

This is an interesting demonstration on the similarity between Internet memes and urban legends. The first descriptions of the "Ever Dream This Man?" phenomenon stem from an old wives tale about a psychiatric patient who draws a picture of a mysterious man in her dreams. The picture would go on to be passed from doctor to doctor, with their patients reporting seeing the man in their dreams as well. Whether this is all a carefully-calculated viral marketing hoax or something much stranger is still up in the air.
