WWE Monday Night Raw 2/20/2012 - The Good, The Bad And The Ugly

Ron Simmons got the Hall of Fame nod, the Divas put on a short match (mercifully) and Santino got buried on this week's Raw. Follow Aubrey Sitterson as he breaks down the good, the bad and the ugly from this week's Monday Night Raw.

Not to say "I told you so," but Elimination Chamber was pretty f'ing lousy. Sure, there were some neat spots and Santino absolutely killed it in the Chamber, but all-in-all it was a completely forgettable show. So, should it come as any surprise that WWE followed up the pay-per-view with a notably terrible episode of Monday Night Raw?

From potentially misogynistic promos to giant guys legitimately hurting smaller guys to completely inconsequential matches featuring SmackDown wrestlers, this episode of Raw was a wet dream for fans of watching me tweet angrily for two hours straight. For more deetz and to keep the lights on at the palatial Shitterson Estate, make sure you do these four simple things: 1) Like this article on Facebook so your friends can see, 2) Tweet the link on Facebook so the spambots can see, 3) Chitchat with me about the write-up in the comments, and 4) Follow Aubrey Sitterson on Twitter and say "Hello" so I know that you're real, or at the very least, a very convincing spambot.

Good/Bad – Shitterson Match Of The Night

This week’s Monday Night Raw didn’t really have a standout match, unfortunately, and it’s times like these that you just have to settle for nine guys you like and the Great Khali shoving one another around in a Battle Royal. As far as these things go, this was a pretty decent Battle Royal, though certainly not worth what looked to be a serious injury to Wade Barrett and a possible one to Dolph Ziggler. The thing that elevated it from “fine” to “a little bit better than fine,” however, was the excellent commentary from CM Punk. It’s a very internet smarkish thing to go on about, but Punk really is quite good behind he announce table, mostly because he actually seems somewhat interested in calling the match and putting over the talent involved – a novel approach in today’s WWE landscape.

Though the Battle Royal was good enough to make me temporarily forget the fact while I was watching it, it was a foregone conclusion that Chris Jericho would win and become the No. 1 Contender to Punk’s WWE Title. The match has been rumored for months, hinted at on Twitter by both wrestlers and most tellingly, neither guy really has anything else to do. I’m sure I’ll enjoy the match when it comes (as long as they give the two enough time to build a story and don’t cut them short for a Shaq promo or whatever), but I’ve been largely disappointed with what WWE has done with Jericho since abandoning his “Jeritroll” gimmick. He now seems to be just a hybrid of his old gaudy rock star days and his Anton Chigurh gimmick, and he’s just not getting the type of heel heat he needs to make a feud with Punk sing.

On top of that: What the balls was the point of his non-elimination elimination from the Elimination Chamber at Elimination Chamber? He’s got no injuries and he just won the No. 1 contendership, so there’s no real takeaway from it. Plus, if the concern was that they didn’t want one of their WrestleMania co-main eventers looking bad at the pay-per-view by getting pinned, how did getting his ass literally kicked out of the match and rendered unconscious after falling on the ground make him look any better?
