Let's be honest, we're all terrified about what form a new LOST franchise is going to take. But rather than quake in fear of a giant smokey sequel, maybe we can learn a few lessons from a certain other franchise that doesn't know when to quit.

LOST The Force: Jake Lloyd. Nuff' Said. LOST's own resident child actor, Walt actually wasn't too annoying, but his inclusion in the show obviously caused continuity problems with Malcolm David Kelley's growth spurts. And no one wants to hear any parents yelling their child's name incessantly, either. WAAAAAAAAAAAALLLT! Gotcha.
LOST Should: Since they never bothered to explain why pregnant women all seem to die on the Island, why not a little tweak that dis-allows the presence of children? That'll shut Michael up.
LOST The Force: Ewoks and Nien Nunb aside, sh*t really hit the fan for annoying Star Wars characters with Jar-Jar. There was an understandable attempt to appeal to the kiddies in a dark chapter of the franchise, but no one got that voice out of their head until at least 2005.
LOST Should: Admittedly, we're intrigued by the idea of a talking polar bear. It works for Coke commercials, so why not LOST? But Hurley's always been the surrogate fan voice, so as long as we don't over-compensate for his absence, LOST should be alright.
LOST The Force: Remember when Star Wars was made with models, costumes and matte paintings? Yeah, we don't either. The green screen can make for some cool effects and locales now and again, but taking away an actor's ability to connect with real surroundings totally ruins the magic.
LOST Should: Beaches, jungles, and suburban houses. They've always grounded LOST in reality, so let's not get carried away with magic glowing hell-caves and insane Egyptian landmarks, eh?
LOST The Force: Have you ever noticed how about half of Star Wars movies simply show ships taking off, and landing? We spend half our time just getting to where we're going, showing off the pretty effects and diverse worlds, not even caring about the scenes we're going there for!
LOST Should: Thankfully that whole "Island" thing precludes the idea of showing off fancy boats and designer aircraft, and all the travel makes for decent scenes between characters. Although, a flying DHARMA Van would be pretty bitchin'.
