The series was shot exclusively in Africa. The desserts and Namibia were used for the exterior shots, and much of the interior wad filmed on sound stages in Cape Town, South Africa.
Every character in the village is known only by numbers.
McKellen will play Number 2, the de factor leader of The Village, and proxy to the unseen Number One.

Caviezel, the captured agent, is known as Number 6.

Jamie Campbell-Brown will play "11-12." Does this mean he will play two characters?
Campbell-Brown may play Number Two's (McKellen) estranged son.
Hayley Atwell will also play a hyphenate, named "4-15."
According to a production blog , the filming wrapped up with some climactic scenes in a "gloomy graveyard" in Capetown.
They also filmed some "gory fight-or-flight scenes" in a hospital.
