Star Wars: The Clone Wars: Darth Maul Facts

Darth Maul stole our hearts with his amazing duel in The Phantom Menace, but there's a lot more to the Sith Lord than meets the eye. He's coming back to life in Star Wars: The Clone Wars so read Star Wars: The Clone Wars: Darth Maul Facts to become a Darth Maul expert!

You know Darth Maul can clean house with a lightsaber, but do you know where he was born or how he got those awesome tattoos all over his body? We were all witness to the Sith's stunning lightsaber battle against Qui-Gon Jinn and Obi-Wan Kenobi in Episode I, but his appearance revealed virtually nothing about who the man truly is. He said about two lines, but honestly, we didn't care because Ray Park did such a fantastic job kicking the Jedis in the face. There is, however, a rich history behind the man with a double-sided lightsaber, and the comics and novels have revealed quite a lot.

Darth Maul is making a comeback in Star Wars: The Clone Wars and it's something you won't want to miss. Now is the perfect time to learn all about Darth Sidious's former apprentice. You love Darth Maul, but the time has come to read Star Wars: The Clone Wars: Darth Maul Facts and become an expert on the character.

Can't Touch This

Darth Maul is one quick Zarbak. The man showcased his agility in The Phantom Menace, but in the comics he makes that look like nothing. We've seen him dance around large groups of enemies, deflect blaster shots back at the shooter, slice off the hand of a shooter before they can pull the trigger and move so fast that he's described as being a blur to regular eyes. His sheer speed, reflexes and agility in addition to his talent with a blade doesn't make him the best Sith around, but he's one that'll give younglings nightmares.

The Force Is Strong

Darth Maul gave into his hate and the dark side of the force is indeed strong with this one. While we haven't seen him lift X-Wings or toss around senate seats, he has shown he's more than capable of using the force in his battles. He used the force a few times in The Phantom Menace, opening the giant doors and telling Obi-Wan to "talk to the hand" as he force pushed him down the tunnel. We've also seen him choke a fool using force grip and prove powerful enough to overcome force lightning.

To top it off, his mind is so clouded with darkness that a telepathic character nearly passed out when trying to read his mind and the last thing they muttered was "so...dark." Dude has a lot of hate, and luckily for him it helps feed his power.

I'll Be Back

Being chopped in half by Obi-Wan was merely a temporary setback for Darth Maul in this non-canon story in Star Wars: Visionaries. "Old Wounds" tells the story of Darth Maul's return from his alleged death and he's sporting a lovely new pair of droid legs. Round two of Obi-Wan versus Darth Maul breaks out, but this time Darth Maul doesn't impress nearly as much.

He looks like a badass with the excellent artwork, but Obi makes short work of the Sith Lord when he slices off an arm and then holds the lightsaber against Maul's head. However, Kenobi isn't forced to get his hands dirty because Owen Lars shoots Darth Maul in the head before Kenobi has the chance to put his saber through Maul's forehead. Thankfully, this was non-canon and therefore just a fun "what if?" type of story.

Maul Vs Vader

The Prophets of the Dark Side were concerned over Darth Vader's dedication to the dark side of the force and believed he wasn't deserving of the Sith Lord title. To destroy Vader, the group brings forth Darth Maul. Seeing as this was after his death, it's unclear if this is a clone or if they found a means to resurrect Maul. They hoped Maul would kill Vader and he would once again return to Sidious's side.

The two have a brutal back-and-forth, with Maul appealing to have the edge most of the time and even mocking the infamous character. Vader manages to cut Maul's saber in half, but it wasn't enough to turn the tide in his favor. Maul gains the upper hand and takes his time before choosing to deliver the final blow. But Maul's arrogance proves to be his downfall yet again. As he takes his time, Vader thrusts his own lightsaber through himself, stabbing into and killing the Maul doppelganger.

The Clone Wars

It is time for the Sith Lord to rise once again... and hopefully it'll last this time. Darth Maul is making his return in the animated Star Wars: The Clone Wars  series, and he's got one thing on his mind: revenge. Maul is now sporting droid legs and has his sights set on Obi-Wan Kenobi. It also looks like his return will deal heavily with his brother, Savage Opress, as well as how he'll react to finding out he's been replaced by the likes of Dooku and Grievous. Sam Witwer, who is voicing Maul, promises this will dive deeper into the character and show sides of him we've never seen before. And yes, he'll kick plenty of ass, too.
