New Fall TV Shows

The Fall TV lineup of 2011 introduces a host of new series premieres for the major network, and we've got your guide to the new show underdogs that you should watch.

New Fall TV shows are right around the corner and, while we're excited to see our favorite shows return and their many cliffhangers answered, we're equally looking forward to the fresh crop of new series making their premieres.

Big-name stars headline some of Fall TV's most promising premieres, while others give a chance for fresh faces and innovative new concepts to flourish before the eyes of their hungry audience. But, with all the new series premieres, from big-budget dinosaur effects chasing down weary time travelers to comediennes given their first sitcoms, how will you know what to watch? Will all the word-of-mouth buzz live up to the hype, or is Fall TV a minefield of potential ratings bombs?

That's the question we've set out to answer for you with our new Fall TV shows preview, along with what new series are worth your time and what can you expect when your favorites return from summer hiatus to answer all the burning questions? Even with all the flashy new spectacles and premieres, some new series definitely worth your time might not have crossed your radar just yet. After all, everybody loves rooting for the underdog!

So which shows from our new Fall TV shows preview are underdogs worth rooting for? Can Will Arnett make it work with a new NBC sitcom? Which fairy tale drama is right for you? Pan Am

ABC's Pan Am might find itself in something of a flying conundrum this fall. One of two new shows clearly meant to piggyback off the period success of Mad Men (the other being NBC's Playboy) might need something more than the notion of Christina Ricci as a flight attendant and some network-friendly "adult" drama to bring eyes to the series.

Just have one of the Pan Am flights crash on a mysterious island in the middle of nowhere LOST-style, and now we're talking!

Up All Night

Will Arnett, how we love you. We still miss Arrested Development every day and we even sat through a few episodes of Running Wilde. Christina Applegate and Maya Rudolph bring plenty of funny bacon to the table as well, but, given Arnett's track record, we can't help but feeling the milk's already run a bit sour for this baby-comedy.

Give it a few episodes, they've earned that much.

Allen Gregory

Another animated series that might find itself lost in the shuffle of FOX's Sunday night Animation Domination. We're amazed Bob's Burgers managed to carve out a place among The Simpsons and Seth MacFarlane's three series, but with the comedic talents and mind of Jonah Hill behind Allen Gregory, we're definitely optimistic enough to watch a few episodes.

Whitney

Does anyone remember Lucky Louie? C.K.'s show before his popularity exploded into FX's Louie? Yeah, we didn't think so. Sitcom vehicles for comedians often fail when you attempt to mold their more acerbic humor into a more narrative, packaged format.

So while the seriously off-color relationship humor of Whitney Cummings wouldn't really lend itself to a half-hour three-camera sitcom on NBC, we're willing to give Whitney the benefit of the doubt on this one. After all, she's just so darn cute!

Free Agents

Free Agents wouldn't be the first time NBC has attempted to import a British sitcom with varied success. After all, for every The Office there's a Kath & Kim.

In our eyes Hank Azaria can do no wrong (yes, including The Smurfs) and the inclusion of Anthony Head reprising his character from the British series certainly makes for a more interesting experiment of a sitcom hopping the pond. We think this one's at least worth keeping an eye on.
