excited to see our favorite shows return and their many cliffhangers answered,
we're equally looking forward to the fresh crop of new series making their
premieres.
Big-name stars headline some of Fall TV's most promising
premieres, while others give a chance for fresh faces and innovative new
concepts to flourish before the eyes of their hungry audience. But, with all the new series premieres, from
big-budget dinosaur effects chasing down weary time travelers to comediennes given
their first sitcoms, how will you know what to watch? Will all the word-of-mouth buzz live up to
the hype, or is Fall TV a minefield of potential ratings bombs?

How To Be A Gentleman |
We haven't seen much promotion for CBS' new book adaptation How To Be A Gentleman, and it's hard to keep an optimistic tone with some of the network's more sitcom-y fare. That said, the presence and direction of It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia's David Hornsby (Cricket) is more than enough to warrant an episode or two. We'd have to see another Johnny Drama project go belly-up, as well.

It's taken the better part of a decade to finally get Sarah Michelle Gellar out of hiding and back on the small screen, but we're not so sure Ringer has enough of a hook to survive just yet. Big names like Ioan Gruffud and Nestor Carbonell will also draw some eyes to the series, but we're definitely rooting for SMG's comeback vehicle to outgrow the fairly soap opera-esque twin drama we've observed thus far.
Terra Nova |
Terra Nova comes as FOX's highest profile project in years, let alone the fall, but there's a few issues that might make the show extinct long before its time. Not only does the pilot alone (which we caught at Comic-Con) rank as one of the most expensive series in history, but we all know FOX's colorful history with canceling inventive sci-fi series the moment ratings seem uncertain, a la Firefly or Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles.
We're banking on the show to perform well, but it may need some serious support to justify its dinosaur-sized budget....
Person of Interest |
Person of Interest has some high-profile buzz going for it with the involvement of J.J. Abrams and Jonathan Nolan, but may end up overshadowed by another of Abrams' high-profile projects, FOX's Alcatraz.
CBS also remains a stronghold for procedural drama, but we can't help wondering if some of Person of Interest's more science-fiction elements (or Michael Emerson's sci-fi following) might muddle the viewership. Either way, it's worth a look.
2 Broke Girls |
The most heavily promoted of CBS' new sitcoms, 2 Broke Girls, has earned some fairly mixed reviews from early word of mouth. That said, we do love us some Kat Dennings and gladly root for all of her upcoming projects. We keep our eyes above the neck the entire time, we swear.
Not to mention that as the title implies, we have some fairly dark hopes as to what 2 Broke Girls might be reduced to in order to keep a roof over their heads. Bow chicka bow wow....
