With only five episodes left of LOST – ever (I know, I know, just breathe) – we thought it was time to chat with Daniel Dae Kim, who’s been with the show since the beginning in the role Jin-Soo Kwon, about where the show has been, where it’s going and possibly to get a few spoilers along the way. Luckily, we were able to get him on the phone for a short little interview, and not only found out exactly what’s coming at the end of the season, but also which major comic book character he’s gunning to play.

Okay, fine, maybe not exactly what’s going to happen... Talking about his role in the season finale, Kim had this to say:

“It was really satisfying... If you equate acting to playing an instrument, I would say that I got to play all the notes on the scale – and I was really happy about that because when we started the show, there was some question about how much my character would grow, and what he would become. And I’m happy to say those questions were answered in a really satisfying way.”

So is there anything left to say about Jin? DDK has a few ideas of where to go:

“Being my character’s defender, I always feel like there’s something more to do with him. There’s questions like, 'How did he actually get from the freighter to the island (laughs) – I’d like to see that story. I’d like to see more about what Jin was doing in the '70s. And what’s his decision making process? Because a lot of times, Jin is the background of scenes, processing. You never actually see him decision making.”

And what about the rumored LOST movie or a possible continuation of the TV show? Would Kim want Jin to come back? “I would never say 'never.'  It would depend on so many factors. One: what were the stories? Two: who was involved? Three: what would my character be doing? Four: how busy am I at the time? [laughs] But I wouldn’t rule it out.”

So what would Jin be doing if he came back for more LOST?  DDK has a few ideas there, too. “I think he’d be speaking in six languages. He spent his entire experience the first time around not being able to communicate because he spoke the wrong language... I think he’ll overcompensate for that.”

Taking a look back, Kim says season one is still his favorite. “I feel like the show was new not only to the audience, but to all of us. Discovering who these characters were and learning all the twists and turns the show was taking was a new experience.”

And in non-LOST news, Kim has his eyes on a superhero movie role, and a specific one at that. “Sub-Mariner. Living in Hawaii, I’m always in the water – and I think Sub-Mariner looks Asian. So I feel like if there’s any one I could play, it would be him. I’ve met with Marvel about a few other things, but if and when it becomes appropriate – sure, if they’d have me.”
