It's no secret that everyone and their mother (and probably your mother too) watched Glee take on an all-Madonna episode. And with rumors of a sequel and even a Britney Spears episode, we thought we'd take a look at the music royalty the McKinley High kids should dare to try, and how it just might play out...
Hit it!
Why Them: Not only is Green Day a pop-punk cultural
phenomenon, but their music catalogue has spread to everything from Rock Band to the Broadway stage, making them ripe for the Glee-ing. Not only that, but we heard Lea Michele hangs with some of the stars of American Idiot...I smell
crossover!
Needed Numbers: Cory
Monteith could easily rock "When I Come Around," while Puck busts out the old
acoustic for some "Good Riddance" and the entire cast could make a power-house "Boulevard of Broken Dreams" for sectionals.
It Goes Like This: Finn loses hope of a football scholarship and decides to go American
Idiot and join the army after high school.
On a routine dental check-up, he hallucinates to the tune of "Give Me
Novocaine" and the Glee Club passionately laments his loss to the tune of "Wake
Me Up When September Ends." Or was that
the plot of Hair? Whatever.
Why Him: We've already dedicated an episode to the Queen of
Pop, so it's about time we hail to the King, baby! Everyone knows a Michael Jackson song for
every occasion, so if the rights issues don't hold us up, the Gleeks will be
moonwalking McKinley in no time.
Needed Numbers: We have a feeling Artie could show us who's
bad by power-rolling down the halls to "Beat It," Finn and Rachel could get
their lovey-doveys out with "You Are Not Alone," and Kurt and Mercedes could
make one hell of a "Scream." But NO
THRILLER. Unless it's a Halloween
episode.
It Goes Like This: Artie realizes that the path to edgy Tina's
heart is to break bad himself, while Mr. Schuester grows increasingly childish
and bizarre, before faking his death and giving a reality show to his four brothers, who no one knew existed beforehand.
What, too soon?
Why This: Oh come on!
Glee's already dipped its toes in the Oz waters, centering an entire
plotline around whether or Kurt or Rachel could "Defy Gravity" better. And with recurring guest stars Kristin Chenoweth and Idina Menzel, how has NO ONE addressed this?!
Needed Numbers: Now that "Defying Gravity" is taken, we'd need
a couple of showstoppers like "Dancing Through Life" and "For Good," or even the
up-tempo "Popular" would fit right in at McKinley High. Plus, Sue Sylvester herself could show off
her "wicked" and conflicted side with the operatic "No Good Deed."
It Goes Like This: Finn dances through life as the brainless
jock whose attention is vied for by the bubbly Rachel and misunderstood
Mercedes, while Mr. Schue dispenses wizardly advice and Kristin Chenoweth bumps
into Idina Menzel in the halls, sharing an awkward glance.
Why Them: Discounting Pop, U2 ranks among the all time
greats for powerful and diverse rock and roll, with a whole host of songs that
would perfectly lend themselves to over the top theatrics and teen woe, not to
mention Bono's idol status, making him a hero to rockstar and humanitarian
wannabes everywhere.
Needed Numbers: Not to give TOO much credit to any one
album, but "Pride (In the Name of Love)" and "With or Without You" are absolute
musts well within vocal range. And maybe
Will Schuester, as a Spanish teacher could finally make some sense out of "Uno,
dos, tres, catorce!" from "Vertigo."
It Goes Like This:
Mr. Schue leads New Directions on a field trip to Ireland, where Kurt puts on his best Billy Elliot impersonation and Puck follows Rachel on a pilgrimage to track down the elusive Irish singer, while Finn joins the IRA and Will rescues him with "Sometimes You Can't Make It On Your Own."
