Somewhere in the world, a million fan-fiction writers' heads are exploding at the prospect of a Game of Thrones / LOST cross-over, and it's all thanks to George R.R. Martin and Damon Lindelof.
Speaking with The New Yorker, Game of Thrones creator Martin ignited a (mostly) harmless war of words between himself and LOST creator Damon Lindelof with comments on the latter's oft-discussed series finale.
On expecting answers to LOST's Unsolved Mysteries, Martin says:
"I kept watching it and I was fascinated. They'd introduce these things and I thought that I knew where it was going. Then they'd introduce [something new] and I'd rethink it. We watched it every week trying to figure it out, and as it got deeper and deeper I kept saying, 'They better have something good in mind for the end. This end better pay off here.' And then I felt so cheated when we got to the conclusion."
But that's not all! When questioned about the long-awaited continuation to his A Song of Ice and Fire novels, Martin replied, "What if I f*ck it up at the end? What if I do a LOST? Then they'll come after me with pitchforks and torches."
Known for taking things in stride on his Twitter account, LOST creator Lindelof was quick to respond "George RR Martin is terrified of 'pulling a LOST' by ending Game of Thrones sh*ttily. In related news, my therapist just hit the jackpot."
Martin himself has no Twitter with which to respond, but Lindelof added to the so-called feud, "I don't take issue with his opinion, I take issue with the fact that he coined 'Pulling a LOST' as empirically 'f*cking up the ending.
After several jokes comparing Martin's bushy beard to that of the fake worn by LOST's Mr. Friendly, Lindelof finally capped off the spree with:
We await your tweet of ice and fire, George.
