After last week's "Sanctuary, Part Two" Falling Skies gets ready to take the fight to the Skitters with "What Hides Beneath," as Weaver confronts the demons of his past and the group discovers a new threat to their resistance

Meanwhile, Anne discovers a frightening truth about Skitter anatomy and Pope lends his explosive knowledge of chemistry and bomb-making to find a new way to fight the enemy.

The penultimate episode before the two-part season finale, "What Hides Beneath" builds the tension for the epic showdown among human and Skitter forces, and we've got the episode recap of everything you'll need to know for next week!  Check it out:

  • When he sleeps at all, Weaver seems to be having some serious nightmares about his family. So much so, that Tom and Porter begin to question his ability to lead the 2nd Massachusetts. In the meantime, they observe that Skitters seem to be falling back and now is the time to mount an offensive against their giant stronghold, bringing it down demolition-style. They reluctantly enlist Pope's help, given his knowledge of explosives.
  • Weaver observes that the still creepy Rick has drawn Weaver's exact street in a picture, further deepening the mystery as he pops pills to stay awake.
  • The still rigorously (and inhumanly) exercising Ben goes for a check-up with Anne, who discovers that the skin around his spikes has become increasingly dense, rather than fading away as other harnessed children. She keeps the news from him, but the two agree to look into Rick, and try to socialize with the obviously traumatized youth.
  • On a recon mission to assess the structural integrity of the alien stronghold, Weaver, Hal and Tom observe an entirely new kind of alien working with the Skitters. This one is tall and grey, with spindly arms. In their flight from the scene they encounter another survivor (hey, it's Fringe's Blair Brown!), who suspiciously invites them in for tea. Weaver takes off to find his old home, leaving Hal and Tom behind. They manage to escape after him, but something about this new woman Sonya Rankin just isn't right...
  • Back at John F. Kennedy High School, Tom's youngest son Matt reticently approaches the Skitter tech (and Pope), wishing to help more with the war effort. In a moment of bonding, Matt helps Pope realize they can use the Skitter mech alloy in their bullets to penetrate their armor in the future.  Meanwhile, Ben approaches Rick again, but Rick remains convinced that the Skitters love the humans. He believes they will be back to re-harness them, which he welcomes.
  • Downstairs, Anne enlists Lourdes to assist in a hush-hush autopsy of a dead Skitter, wherein they discover that beneath its flesh lies a harness, indicating the creature was once another species that the harness transformed.
  • Tom and Hall catch up with Weaver drinking at his former home and reminiscing. He ultimately reveals to Tom the circumstances of how he lost his family, including how he killed his own daughter in attempting to remove her harness. But no time to deal with that now, as a mech shows up to the house! The group works together to attach grenades to the alien automaton, and Weaver finds hope in a pair of his wife's glasses that hadn't previously been at the scene before.
  • They return to Sonya Rankin's apartment, having realized that she shell-shockingly delivered their location among information to the Skitters in exchange for food. When another shows looking for information, it turns out to be none other than Hal's harnessed former girlfriend Karen, with the shiny new silver alien in tow!  They abate the situation, and realize they can't take Sonya given the trauma it'd cause her.
  • Back at the high school, Pope shows off his new mech-busting tech, while the Skitter-loyal Rick runs off concerned!  The offensive is coming!

The skies will keep falling next Sunday with the epic two-hour season finale "Mutiny" and "Eight Hours," so stay tuned!
