"Well, we're not your typical reality family. I
really want to say, I think our reality show appeals to people who hate reality
shows. This is slightly problematic because we are not the Kardashians or Paris Hiltons... We're a really
nice, loving family.
"We happen to be a little
crazy; we talk about things with our parents that most people aren't
comfortable talking with their parents about, and say things that most people
don't say. We are really nice at heart and we do for each other, and help each
other. We get into a lot of fights because when you're working for free, helping
you're brother and he is screwing you, you let him have it.
We end up fighting a lot,
but at the end of the day we are best of friends and a really nice family. I'm
a bit of a straight man when it comes to humor but my brothers and Mom are just
hysterical. My family is quite funny, so I've been laughing my ass of at every
episode I've seen."
"You know, we were very smart and we picked a production company that we really liked, and we picked a TV channel that we really liked. Both the production company and TV channel wanted to do the kind of show that we wanted to do. It still could've went awry, but based on every episode I've seen, they have been absolutely true to their word. There hasn't been an attempt to paint us in anyway that we are not.
"If anything, they've actually toned us down a little bit because they think we are a little too racy for TV and they want to make sure people like us. My brother had this amazing line about the fact that my dad should get a machete tattooed on his arm so that he could appeal to the Spanish community. A&E made them take it out because they said that some people might get offended. They seem to be looking out for our best interest almost too much. Other than that, the show is so legitimate. It's what we did. It's everything we've said and it's everything we've done. It's unscripted and there's no real outline for anything that we are doing. We knew stuff that we we're working on, and they filmed it.
"Crazy sh*t just seemed to just pop up... We didn't expect for child services to get called on my mom while we were shooting the show and we didn't expect my mom to run me off the road when I first learned how to ride a motorcycle. I mean things just happened. You couldn't have made this up and it was really an interesting experience. I don't feel like it's any different then how it happened, except maybe it's more positive then it actually was. They're making us look to good. I almost feel guilty about it."
"Yeah, I wrote a song for
my daughter called "Go With Me." Basically it's my promise to do everything in
my power to bring her on the road with me if I have to go. When I was a kid, my dad was gone for nine months out of the first year of my life. I always thought
I was missing something in our relationship or what he felt for me, because
I've been here for all sixteen of my daughter's first months, and there's a
serious bond that happens during that period of time.
"I feel like I missed that
with my dad, and that he doesn't have all the feelings and emotions that I have
towards my daughter. When I noticed that, I decided to write her a song to
promise her that I wouldn't let those important months slip away from me. I'm
going to do everything I can to make sure that stays true."
"My dad and I have a great
relationship, he reads every single comic I write, and listens to all the music
I make. He is my sounding board and one of my best friends. We really do have a
great relationship and no reconnect was necessary. We've been best buds.
"I just think that there is
this fundamental bond that happens when you're little and you're talking for
the first time. When you're there as a parent, you just become intimately
involved in that person's development. My dad missed a lot of that for me and I
would have been really upset if I missed any of that with my daughter."
"Absolutely not man, music, TV star or whatever. Not that many musicians have hundred year careers. Most of them kind of go, they do their thing and they kind of fizzle out. Comic books though, I could write till I'm old and gray. I hope I am, it's just a passion of mine and I love to write. Especially about people who wear their underpants outside their pants. It's such an important thing in my life and one of the most rewarding experiences I've ever had. I'll keep doing it till they run me off with pitchforks."
