Character Evolution: Chloe

Elyse Levesque: I think that there’s been, especially as we’ve progressed throughout the second season, there’s been a very big growth in Chloe. When she first came on board Destiny, she was a very young, naïve woman who, I think, was not  used to getting her hands dirty and having to fight for her life. So I think we see her grow up a lot...

Sorry, David just walked into the room and he gave me a funny look and it threw me off. [Laughs]

So I think we find her starting to take part in a lot of stuff on board the ship. I think she was kind of lost and confused in the beginning of the first season and was sort of dealing with this massive change that she found herself in, this whole new world and the loss of her father. I think we find her to be... She’s much braver, she’s more part of the action and whatnot in the second season. I feel like she’s grown up a lot.

Character Evolution: Eli

David Blue: Well in season one I feel like Ugly Betty – Oh no wait wrong show. I don’t know, so much has changed... It’s an interesting parallel arc between Chloe and Eli because they both weren’t really supposed to be there and kind of thrust into the situation.

And it’s been like a slow coming of acceptance and growth, especially for Eli. He’s starting to acclimate to his surroundings and starting to kind of find a way to pitch in. And on top of that really develop his relationships with the people around him.

I think the best thing for Eli that’s really going to start coming out in the coming episodes is that he really does start growing up. He really does start taking on responsibility and making his own choices and realizing that he needs to be responsible for himself, which really, really changes the characters a lot. And some stuff does go down in the next few episodes that emotionally change him a lot as well.

The Next Episode(s)

EL: All right let’s see. I think it’s already kind of been leaked out there already that Chloe is undergoing all kinds of changes both physically and mentally. I think it takes not only a massive effect on her but on the entire ship because she becomes something that nobody is entirely sure can be trusted. I think that she feels in a way more segregated from the rest of the crew, and that takes a massive toll on all her personal relationships.

But it’s fascinating to see her deal with it in a very different way, I think, from how she would have dealt with it last season. I think she deals with it in a way that’s more admirable that I ever could.

DB: And Eli, the next episode, without giving away too much, actually deals a lot with what he has going on, with what he has to... What has always been in the back of his mind and what needs to be dealt with in order for him to grow up and find himself.

The episode after that is a lot of fun and trippy and crazy. And then pretty much immediately after that, that’s when everything I’ve been alluding to starts happening to Eli. Like the big changes in his life, possible new romances. Things that are really going to affect him and make that change. To where he becomes, not like an overnight change, he’s now on the path to being more responsible, being more of an asset. And on top of that start to really find the belief in himself that will really affect the change of the whole ship of the Destiny.
