3D TV Shows We Want to Watch

With Glee: The 3D Concert Movie's release and news of True Blood's interest in 3D, we wonder which 3D TV shows may be coming next. Which of our favorite shows should make the leap to the third dimension?

The 3D TV show may be the next frontier in home entertainment. The trend of 3D may be wavering in movies, but if technology manages to make worthwhile 3D TV an easily accessible home convenience, what's to stop families and individuals alike from easily slapping on a pair of glasses and watching their favorite TV shows splashing through their living rooms? Or, if technology like that found in the Nintendo 3DS can be perfected, would we need the glasses at all?

We've already seen plenty of TV shows experimenting with the 3D format, and even major TV shows like Glee have made the leap to theaters with the release of Glee: The 3D Concert Movie. Some series are said to already be experimenting with 3D TV, as we've heard rumblings that True Blood has already filmed sequences at the request of HBO!

Could you imagine all of Anna Paquin's gratuitous blood and sex, or even the icy plains of Game of Thrones' Westeros, in eye-popping 3D? How would the landscape of our favorite science fiction shows change if suddenly we found ourselves immersed in the other-worldly action?

Since the dawn of Avatar, we've seen plenty of ways directors can inventively utilize 3D to truly draw us in another world rather than divert attention to a cheap gimmick. So, with all the boobs, blood and bullets bouncing around our TV these days, we can't help but dream of how 3D TV shows would add all-new levels of awesome to our favorite programs.

Jersey Shore

Turning Jersey Shore into a 3D TV show can be explained with four words: "JWoww in 3D. Yowza."  Then again, we'd also be forced to deal with Snooki's inevitable 3D projectile vomit, meatballs being flung every which way and the constant flinching that results from 3D fist-pumping. But, isn't that the next logical step for the Jersey Shore crew? It wasn't enough to conquer another continent so the guidos must next invade another dimension! Cthulhu help us.

Dexter

Blood spattering every which way, fun forensic experiments, knives plunging into chests and a very unique dash of camp, Dexter's macabre resume lends itself perfectly to a 3D TV show. We wouldn't advise making the leap this season however, as the idea of Edward James Olmos' 3D crater face terrifies us to our frakkin' cores.

Not to mention, if you've seen Jennifer Carpenter lately, you know she could use a few extra dimensions to flesh that stick-like figure out.

Community

We all know Community loves to play the genre game, so could a 3D episode be out of the question, meta awareness and all? We know NBC isn't against playing up the format given its past use on Chuck, and the way Community hops from gimmick episode to gimmick episode makes a leap to the third dimension nigh-inevitable.

With last season's paintball-filled finale tossing projectiles every which way, how could the inevitable threequel episode ignore the potential, even if the writers bemoan the idea?

Game of Thrones

Game of Thrones is expensive enough as it is. We know that neither HBO nor George R.R. Martin would ever stoop so low as to consider adding 3D to an already layered and dense series based on such rich adult source material.

Given the proper handling, however, how amazing would it feel to be drawn further into the iconic landscape of Westeros, with such dense locations and impressive CG effects? For the campy purist, who wouldn't like some 3D TV show heads rolling or fire-breathing dragon action?

The Walking Dead

Far be it from us to ever imagine that a network as serious as AMC would ever consider adopting a 3D format, but what better way is there to watch the zombie endtrails fly? The Walking Dead's second season brings with it an increased budget (save for the loss of Frank Darabont), which means more gory kills and tense drama. By making it a 3D TV show, the madness, scares and unpredictability of horrors would increase dramatically.

While we're on the subject, how much would you pay for an episode of Mad Men in 3D? Half your living room would be Christina Hendricks!
