Release date: July 25, 2008
Fox Mulder and Dana Scully return to investigate a series of kidnappings involving a pedophile priest who claims to be psychic.
The rather sudden appearance of a second X Files movie six years after the demise of the TV series left many scratching their heads; releasing a dark, wintry, melancholy mystery movie about a pedophile priest in the middle of the summer left even more wondering what in the hell was going on. It's too bad, as I Want to Believe is actually an efficient and eerie thriller, with both David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson delivering excellent performances as Mulder and Scully - older, wiser, sadder and even more stubborn in their opposing viewpoints. Even more than its cinematic predecessor released ten years earlier, I Want to Believe is little more than a two-hour episode of the TV series - but it's still a pretty good two-hour episode.
Chris Carter (director), David Duchovny, Gillian Anderson, Mitch Pileggi, Amanda Peet, Billy Connolly, Alvin 'Xzibit' Joiner, Callum Keith Rennie, Nicki Aycox, Adam Godley.
