Dana Scully lives with an almost psychotic level of denial and delusion. She's seen so many strange things - ghosts, monsters, aliens, you name it. Hell, she's even been abducted by aliens - more than once. And yet she still refuses to believe in any of that hooey her partner, Fox Mulder, believes in (or at least wants to believe). She believes everything has a scientific explanation, and since the supernatural can't technically be explained by biology or physics, she's constantly - and stubbornly - the skeptic. Never mind that she's experienced and witnessed all the crazy crap that comes out of Chris Carter's imagination. Only someone like Gillian Anderson could pull off such a maddeningly contradictory character - and look great doing it.
