Comic-Con is where dreams are made, and this year's NYCC is stuffed with beautiful dreamers. Dig this list of the indie comic artists that you have to get something by.

Sure, all of the big boys are going to be out at NYCC 2011, and you're not going to miss hitting the Marvel, DC and Dark Horse booths for all the latest, but guess what? Comic-Con is also where you go to find the new hotness before it hits the mainstream, and this year's roster has some incredible indie comic artists to meet and greet. In this feature, we've composed a virtual tour guide to the must-see indie comic artists at NYCC - get in on the ground floor so when they have the new Walking Dead you can sell your autographed copies.

One of the coolest things about NYCC is that it draws guests from all over the world - people you wouldn't normally see at a show like this. Case in point: Brazilian indie comic artist legend Tito Na Rua, who draws comics on a very unique medium: the street. Na Rua's tales of Joe Nobody, an underwear-clad fellow on a search for his lost dog, are spray-painted on walls all over, photographed, and assembled into book form. He hit New York this week, put up a new strip, and is selling his books at NYCC 2011.

Oni Press is one of the biggest independent publishing houses out there - they're the people who did Scott Pilgrim, for example - so they can be trusted. Indie comic artist Sarah Oleksyk's Ivy is the company's new book, and it's getting rave reviews. The story of a young girl trapped in a small Maine town and dreaming of art school, it's told with a nimble hand and stunning art. This is one of those books that appeals to just about everyone, and if you're attending NYCC 2011 with your girlfriend, she'll love it.

One of the most fun books to hit the stands in the last year is Reed Gunther, by the indie comic artist team of Shane and Chris Houghton. This all-ages comic book takes us back to the Old West to chronicle the adventures of the titular bear-riding cowboy and his gang of sidekicks and enemies. This is classic funnybook business and, if you have kids (or are a big one yourself), you'll want to pick up the first collection, which will be on sale at NYCC 2011. Trust us: this is good stuff.

Just because something is indie doesn't mean it can't look slick. The amazing indie comic artist talents at Boxhead Studio are testament to that. This collection of artists has previously worked on childrens books and other projects, but they'll be debuting a teaser for their first graphic novel for grown-ups, King of the East, at NYCC 2011. The book looks absolutely amazing, and the whole team will be there to show it off.

One of the most interesting projects I'm hearing about at NYCC 2011 is Masternever and the Flow of Death, a unique hip-hop martial arts graphic novel about a young Kung Fu master who is tasked with passing on his knowledge to future generations by deciphering a document written in old-school Chinese graffiti. This ambitious project is a great example of the different kinds of voices that make the NYCC so great. No matter what you're trying to bring to the world, if you work hard enough you can get it on the biggest stage.
