Comic-Con is also where you go to find the new hotness before it hits the mainstream, and this year's roster has some incredible indie comic artists to meet and greet. You might have seen Michael Kupperman's Snake & Bacon on Adult Swim - the one time they showed it. The New York-based cartoonist just released his latest book, Mark Twain's Autobiography 1910 - 2010, and it's getting rave reviews. Did you know that the creator of Huckleberry Finn also traveled into deep space and beneath the surface of the Earth? He'll be signing the book at the Fantagraphics table, taking part in a slideshow, and more. Ask this indie comic artist about his new Marvel story, Shame Itself, at NYCC 2011.

There are a bunch of new books making their debut at NYCC 2011. We've got no way of knowing which of them are going to be awesome, but some have us frothing. Case in point: The Red Ten, by Tyler James and Cesar Feliciano. This one-shot comic has an awesome premise: a female, Batman-style, World's Greatest Detective is found murdered, and the prime suspect is, obviously, her Joker-equivalent. Things aren't as simple as they seem, however, and when the dead heroine's teammates get involved, things get really grisly. Check out these indie comic artists for some inside info.

One interesting thing about Comic-Con is that it gives pros a chance to make a splash with new projects. One of the most interesting new writers out there right now is Jim McCann. While not quite an indie comic artist, he has done great things with Hawkeye recently and also wrote the Eisner Award-winning Return Of The Dapper Men. McCann has been dropping hints about a new project that will see the light of day for the first time at NYCC 2011, and the image above is a teaser. Whatever it is, I bet it'll be cool.

The artwork of first-time NYCC indie comic artist Pat Dorian is awesome - bizarre, bubbly figures call back to the days of Popeye and limbs go flying everywhere with gleeful abandon. I used to work with this guy at a game company, and he was talented back then, but hadn't really found his voice. Now he's found it and he's set to be a force to be reckoned with. Canadian indie comic artist Kagan McLeod saw the release of his incredible Infinite Kung Fu earlier this year and, if you haven't picked up a copy yet, get on it at NYCC 2011. It's an incredible, virtuoso display of pen and ink ass-kicking, paying tribute to all of the greats. McLeod is also the man behind one of my favorite posters of all time, where he depicted pretty much every important figure in hip-hop history at the size of a postage stamp. If he has copies of it, you need one.
