As has been well-covered on this site and others, DC will be bringing all of its mainline titles to an end in August and rebooting them with new No. 1 issues the following month. While many of these new series and their creative teams have been announced already, we're expecting more details and announcements to be released at next month's San Diego Comic-Con. In the meantime, DC's rival Marvel Comics has announced a shocking series end of their own.
October will see the release of Uncanny X-Men #544, which is set to be the final issue of the series that goes back to the 1960s, shockingly without a single cancellation/relaunch. Marvel has not yet announced an Uncanny X-Men #1 to replace the series, but being that neither they nor us are complete idiots, it's probably a safe bet that it will be forthcoming, and most likely marketed as "ALL-NEW! ALL-DIFFERENT!"
Here's hoping for a return to the days of whatever the hell is going on here.
The series' end will come as a result of the upcoming X-Men event Schism, which is described by Marvel Editor-in-Chief Axel Alonso as "the X-Men's Civil War" and will pit Cyclops and Wolverine against one another in much the same way that earlier blockbuster event saw Captain America and Iron Man go head-to-head. The final issue will be written by series regular Kieron Gillen with lightboxed porn stars provided by Greg Land. Check out Marvel's official release below:
All things must come an end...even for the X-Men, and this October fans will bear witness the end of an era as Uncanny X-Men #544 concludes the long running series. It’s all come to this! Years in the making, the seeds of dissent finally bear fruit as the events of X-Men Schism tear the X-Men and the Marvel Universe apart! When the dust settles, the state of mutantkind will irreparably be changed forever. Don’t miss the historic final issue of the longest running X-Men title this October, in Uncanny X-Men #544!
