Cartoon Urban Legends

Because we love it when clean things get dirty, we list our eleven favorite cartoon urban legends.

Cartoon urban legends have always been great fodder for hushed talk on the playground. There's just something too irresistible about a cartoon made for children that sneaks in adult content when nobody's looking. As a result, these things continue to propagate themselves long after they've been proven false. They're just too fun to keep down. With that in mind, we've put together eleven of history's best cartoon urban legends. Some are true, and some are false, but all are fun.

Bugs Bunny was Racist

Perhaps you have a friend who loves to tell you everything that's horrible about things you love. Undoubtably, this wonderful person has already informed you that old Bugs Bunny cartoons were incredibly racist. Well, they were right.

Two Bugs Bunny cartoons in particular have been banned for their offensive racial depictions. One, "Bugs Bunny Nips the Nips" goes in a disastrous direction with its overabundance of Japanese stereotypes that are somewhat typical of war-time propaganda.

"All This and Rabbit Stew," however, cannot hide behind WWII fervor to explain itself. The short film contains a Stepin Fetchit-inspired African American character that puts Jar Jar Binks to shame. It's probably best that these were hidden away for a time.
