Best Spider-Man Villains

We take a look at the crazed lunatics that make Peter Parker’s life a living hell. Here are the best Spider-man villains.

First web-slinging into the comic book panels back in 1962, the story of Peter Parker is something millions across the globe have come to adore. Bitten by a radioactive spider, Spider-Man is sporting superhuman attributes that allow him to effortlessly dance around fools and knock just about anyone's lights out with a single strike. Through the years, dozens of not-so-nice characters have risen to face-off with the web-head. Some have the muscle and means to take him on in a direct match that'll cost New York countless dollars in repairs, while others toy with the hero's emotions and personal life. Many have failed over-and-over again (here's looking at you, Scorpion), but plenty have managed to become a living embodiment of hell for the wall-crawler.

Jackal

Miles Warren was a professor at Empire State University and had a big time crush on Gwen Stacy. When the blonde died, he blamed Spider-Man and swore vengeance. Jackal would often hire others for his dirty work (even Punisher), but in the end it was his involvement in the mostly hated 90s event, The Clone Saga, that defined his legacy. Fortunately for his reputation, Jackal was behind the better story, Spider-Island. The green genius unleashed engineered bed bugs in Manhattan, giving people Spider-Man's powers. Warren seemingly met his end from the Spider-Queen.

Morlun

The member of an ancient race, Morlun only had a few appearances, but they were undeniably brutal. Morlun was able to lay the smack-down on Spider-Man like no other (even eating one of Parker's eyes). No matter how hard he fought, Spidey stood no match against this unstoppable creature and barely survived the first time by poisoning the enemy. The life-draining villain rose from the dead to battle the hero yet again. Morlun stalked and taunted him for hours, shrugging off the best strikes Spider-Man had to offer. After a lengthy battle, Spider-Man was rushed to the hospital and placed on life support. The vampiric villain went to finish the job, but Mary Jane tried to stop him. Morlun snapped her wrist like a twig, and the violence against his lover rejuvenated Spider-Man for one last feral attack. Morlun was killed by this new version of Spider-Man, but just like other villains who refuse to die, he later appeared in Black Panther.

Kraven

Sergei Kravinoff is a man seeking the ultimate challenge. This hunter has defeated the planet's most dangerous animals with nothing but his bare hands. When Spider-Man came into the spotlight it presented a new hunt for him. With decades of experience, this villain became even deadlier by experimenting with potions that would give him the physicals to compete with Parker.

Kraven would finally find happiness when he landed a poison dart on Spider-Man's neck and quickly defeated him. At his mercy, Kraven shot Spider-Man with a tranquilizer and buried the fallen hero. Spending two weeks underground, Kraven dressed as Spider-Man and proved (in his mind) to be his superior by stopping crime and defeating the sewer-dwelling enemy, Vermin. When Spider-Man finally came to, Kraven swore his hunt was over and there was nothing left to live for. The Russian then took his own life, only to be brought back recently in Joe Kelly's story, Grim Hunt. Much to his displeasure, Sergei wants to return to the grave, but can only die at the hands of Spider-Man. I say now that he has a healing factor, let's see the real ultimate hunt: Kraven vs Wolverine!

Doctor Octopus

The founding father of the Sinister Six, Doctor Octopus has continually battled Spider-Man since Amazing Spider-Man #3. The former atomic researcher and nuclear physicist was behind the death of George Stacy and even tried to marry Aunt May! The years of encounters with Parker have taken a toll on Doctor Octopus and he's running out of time before those lasting injuries put him to rest. Facing this realization, Otto Octavius has re-formed the Sinister Six and appears to be more determined than ever. This year at New York Comic Con, Marvel teased that the mastermind now has global plans of destruction. This is going to be a good year for the classic foe.

Venom (Eddie Brock)

Spider-Man's polar opposite, Venom is the wall-crawler's worst nightmare. Eddie Brock was not only the ultimate Venom host, but he's one of the ultimate Spider-Man villains of all time. With Brock's hatred for Parker and the symbiote's knowledge of the hero, Venom's distorted sense of justice took both a physical and mental toll on Spider-Man. Venom would go after his relatives, but not to hurt him. In fact, Venom claimed he was protecting them from Spider-Man. At one point, the A-list hero had to fake his own death on an island to survive a relentless assault from Brock. Faced with cancer, Eddie eventually sold the symbiote and gave the money to medical charities, but he'll forever be remembered as the best Venom.
