Video Games That Should Be Made Into Movies

For whatever reason, videogame movies have enjoyed only a modest success at best, and that got us thinking: Can a videogame make a successful film? We see no reason why it couldn’t. The next question, logically, is “What videogames would make for great films?”

Over the years, and rightly so, video games have gathered a certain stigma about being made into big-screen blockbusters. Some would argue that they just aren't meant for it. Here at UGO, we argue that they simply hadn't used the right source material. When you try to convert Pac-Man into a film, the results would be disastrous, but what if you take a game with a competent story, a rich world and well-developed characters? Add to that a great director and great actors, and you may be on to something. Here are 11 videogames we believe would work well as films.

The Dig

Another no-brainer, when it comes to bringing an IP to the silver screen. The Dig was a story written by Orson Scott Card and Steven Spielberg. It was initially meant to be an episode on the TV show, Amazing Stories. What does this mean? It means the script was written with an eye for how it would look on-screen. The result is a script that can hit the big screen with absolutely no tweaks. And since Steven Spielberg was initially involved, maybe he can direct as well. As a game, The Dig was hugely underrated. It is an amazing tale that every self-respecting science fiction fan needs to experiene, and perhaps a movie adaptation will be its second chance at greatness. One thing, though, leave the soundtrack alone. Michael Land's music is sheer brilliance.
