Scariest Robots

They're stronger than you. They're smarter than you. They know neither pain nor fear. These robots are not our friends.

The notion of having a robot that can walk, talk and think for itself sounds cool at first, but then we realize what a bad idea it truly is. When it comes to killing, robots outmatch us by a large margin, as many movies have done a great job illustrating. Meanwhile, scientists in real life keep bringing us closer and closer to robot Armageddon. We offer you the scariest robots of both real life and popular culture, of which there are almost too many to choose.

WD-2 Face Morphing Robot

The WD-2 Face Morphing Robot is a box of wires leading to a robotic head that can change from one face to another. Thanks to this wonderful piece of technology, killer robots may now look exactly like your sweet, harmless mother, tricking you into finally letting your guard down. Don't trust anyone or this robot's horrific face-morphing action may be the last thing you ever see.

Johnny Cab

Paul Verhoeven likely included Total Recall's Johnny Cab as a tension cutting bit of comic relief. Unfortunately, he gave Johnny Cab an endlessly smiling visage that dips into the uncanny valley deeply enough to haunt our dreams forever. Plus, as Arnold finds out, this public servant reveals that he is a lot more dangerous than he looks when stiffed his cab fare.

Einstein HUBO

They know just how to give an already scary robot a freaky edge in South Korea. Why this HUBO bot is one of the scariest robots ever should be self-explanatory: it has the head of Albert Einstein. Its facial movements are incredibly natural and realistic. But that's the problem. The more jolly and wise the Einstein HUBO looks, the more it feels like it secretly wants to eat your brain. Perhaps the real Einstein would have approved. We, however, prefer our robot overlords looking as little like friendly geniuses as possible.

Vera Bot

Except for one really amazing subplot, people tend to look down upon Superman III for its unapologetic silliness. Fair enough, but even haters have to admit the Vera Bot scared them when they were young. For one thing, being forcibly turned into a robot is an unpleasant notion. With Vera, it's pretty rough looking, especially since she was already kind of scary as a human. The results are almost too much for kids who just wanted to see Superman pal around with Richard Pryor.

Robokiyu the Rescue Robot

Owned by the Tokyo Fire Department, Robokiyu the Rescue Robot was just supposed to help people get out of disaster areas, but it turned out to be more adept at cleaning said areas of dead bodies. So if you die in Tokyo, this thing will happily grab you with its two giant arms and shove you inside its mouth with all the other dead folk. It sucks just a bit more if you happen to be less dead than you looked. Robots aren't great with grey areas.
