It's been 8 years since Men in Black 2, but fortunately our memories of the franchise have remained intact. The long wait might have been due to the drop in box-office sales from the original Men in Black in 1997 (which made around $600m) to the less-than-stellar sequel in 2002 ($440m). Either way, it looks like the series is getting an update and based on the buzz thus far it sounds interesting.

Here's what we know...

Confirmed

  • Etan Cohen, writer of Tropic Thunder and Idiocracy, has penned the screenplay. (Bloody-Disgusting)
  • Sony confirmed the development of Men in Black 3 at ShoWest. (Collider)
  • David Koepp, the screenwriter behind blockbusters like Spiderman and War of the Worlds, has been given the task of polishing up the script before production. (Entertainment Weekly)

Rumored

  • Will Smith is deciding whether to commit to Men in Black 3 or Overbrook Films', his production company, "City that Sailed". Either one may be his next film. (Variety)
  • Shooting will begin this spring. (Bloody-Disgusting)
  • Josh Brolin is being considered for a role as an agent in the film, possibly replacing Tommy Lee Jones. (LA Times)
