Hardcore Green Lantern maniacs know that some of the best material in the GL universe isn't just in the topline "Green Lantern" comics, but are also in the mythos-rich additional titles "Green Lantern Corps" and the new(ish) "Green Lantern: Emerald Warriors." True, anything that's going to really shake-up Hal Jordan's world of effect the larger DCU will happen in the main book, but if you want to see crazy space cops doing weird things, you gotta go deep.
In parallel to this is this summer's mega release of Green Lantern. So far we've been incredibly impressed with the studio's trust in the strangenes of the Green Lantern property. But we must remember that it is a Ryan Reynolds film that must appeal to a wide audience to make back its nine trillion dollar budget. That's where DC Animated Original Films comes in.
Heading to stores on June 7 (ten full days before the movie) is Green Lantern: Emerald Knights - an omnibus of classic "Tales from the Corps" stories that is the biggest bit of nerdtastic fan service yet put to film.
I know this because I've seen the damned thing at WonderCon (click here to read my review.)
Today the Guardians have released a clip - actually the first few moments of the film - where new recruit Arisia joins the Corps for an all hands on deck meeting to hear about the return of a certain villain.
See how many GLs you can name! (And, yes, tha'ts Captain Mal voicing Hal and Lucious Malfoy voicing Sinestro.)
