Sometimes gaining immortality comes along with a hefty price tag, as was the case with Barem here. One of the iconic characters of the Dragonlance universe, Berem -- along with his sister, Jasla -- attempted to steal jewels from the fabled Foundation Stone, but in doing so, accidentally killed his sister when she tried to stop him. The jewel fused with Berem and thus made him immortal, earning him the nickname Everman when enemy forces realized no conventional weapon could kill him. Eventually, the jewel was removed and Berem committed suicide, and his soul was reunited with that of his sister's.
