Skyrim's Best Marriages

Marriage is only for one kind of person: someone who doesn't play Skyrim. Seeing as how you can't play Skyrim in Skyrim, you might as well get married. Here are the best potential spouses in Skyrim's best marriages.

Skyrim, as our Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim review will tell you, is no stranger to adventure. You can punch wild bears in the face, jump on a dragon's back and stab it in the ass or break into sacred burial chambers and steal all the gold, all of which would make for some of Skyrim's best videos. Unfortunately, if you're like me, these things become a little stale. I do these things all day in real life, why should I come home and do them again virtually? To fund Lydia's skooma addiction? Just because she's one of Skyrim's best companions doesn't mean I support her choices.

How, then, do I revitalize my Skyrim experience? Marriage, of course! I spent enough time with enough people to know which ones will make good spouses. Here are Skyrim's best marriages to be a part of, in bone break fever and in health.

Vilkas

Requirements: Complete Glory of the Dead

Location: Whiterun

Vilkas can be found in Jorrvaskr with the rest of his shield-brothers. After running through the Companions questline, Vilkas is willing to take you, till death you you part. Luckily, the only thing that will kill him is silver, because he's a badass werewolf. On top of that, Vilkas is a master level Two-handed Trainer. You must see where I'm going with this by now.

Max out your two-handed skill, take back that gold and get some Lover's Comfort. All in a day's work. Best Skyrim marriage, ever.

Aela

Requirements: Complete Glory of the Dead

Location: Whiterun

Another candidate from Jorrvaskr, Aela is basically the female alternative to Vilkas. She's a werewolf, she'll continue to fight by your side and she'll train you in master level archery. Aela does it all. You can tell her to move in, in which case she'll open up a shop, or you can have her stay at Jorrvaskr if you're not into that "living with your wife" nonsense. We've already gone over how awesome her side boob action is in Skyrim's Best Companions, so that makes her one of Skyrim's best marriage options right there.

I'd keep my eye on her in Jorrvaskr though. Sounds like her and Skjor might have a thing. A werewolf thing.

Athis

Requirements: Complete The Glory of the Dead

Location: Whiterun

When entering Jorrvaskr for the first time, I managed to catch a glimpse of Athis getting his ass whooped. Did that affect my opinion of him? Hell yes it did. You suck, Athis. That is, until I discovered he was a expert level One-handed Trainer. Being a one-handed weapon user myself, this made him much more appealing. I don't want a spouse that can kick my ass anyway, so Athis was a win/win decision.

Just train me in one-handed and make me dinner, Athis.

Balimund

Requirements: Bring Balimund 10 Fire Salts

Location: Riften

Balimund is the male alternative to Ghorza. Marrying him will allow you to reap the benefits of his business, access his inventory and get some expert level blacksmith training. He can be found in Riften smithing away at the Scorched Hammer. Balimund is as manly as you get in Skyrim. He knows how to provide and he will continue to make you happy for the hundreds of hours you will probably be spending in Skyrim.

Grelka

Requirements: None

Location: Riften

Grelka has a armor shop set up in Riften. She's kind of rude, but she has her reasons. Let's face it, everyone is on edge ever since the dragons came back and start setting their families on fire. Well guess what Grelka, it's your lucky day! You're my wife now. Max out my light armor skill and give me my money back.

Unfortunately, it looks like console players have been suffering from a bug where they can't marry Grelka. There is a fix out there for PC players, but console players will have to wait until this is patched.

Sorry Grelka, but you're damaged goods until then.
