Craziest Fighting Game Characters

A popular move in fighting games is to bring in characters from other games to fight. Sometimes this is pretty cool, and then there's Fighters Megamix. Released for the ill-fated SEGA Saturn console, this 3D fighter was the follow-up to Virtua Fighter 2, but where that game was serious and deep, Megamix was just weird. The game featured several ground-breaking features, including the ability to sidestep attacks, but what it's best known for is guest character Hornet from... Daytona USA. Yep, the developers threw a racing car in as one of the fighters. It's just as absurd as it sounds.

Boss characters are often where fighting game developers pull out all the stops, and forthcoming all-girl game Skullgirls is no exception. Double was the last character to be revealed by Reverge Labs, and she poses quite a scary contrast to the rest of the cast. While Skullgirls's other fighters are buxom ninja nurses, aristocratic princesses and buff lady wrestlers, Double is a grotesque, constantly-shifting blob of protoplasm that is seriously disturbing to look at for too long.

Capcom's Vs. series has long been known for outlandish characters, and by far the winner is Marvel Vs. Capcom 2. Featuring one of the most crowded character select screens of all time and a staggering 56 playable characters, it's no wonder that some of the picks were a little weird. It was tough to decide who the nuttiest entry was, but for our money it's the rotund cactus warrior Amingo. This dude hasn't appeared in any games before or since, which shouldn't be surprising.

Namco's Tekken series has never shied away from introducing totally nutty characters to the fighting arena, but the apotheosis of that philosophy came in 1997's Tekken 3. In addition to series mainstay weirdos Yoshimitsu and Kuma the grizzly bear, the game introduced us to Masashi Tanaka's manga character Gon. If you're not familiar with him, Gon is a tiny Tyrannosaurus Rex who rips his way through amusing silent adventures. In the game, he stood shorter than most characters' kneecaps, making him very annoying to fight.
