PADDLE BOATS
More recreation than
exercise, Lumpini’s paddle
boats allow you to get
a different perspective
of the park as you cruise
across one of its lakes.
These swan-shaped,
people-powered vessels
can be hired from THB40
(US$1.30) for 30 minutes.
CHINESE PAVILION
Where the clock tower has
more muted architecture,
this bright, red-and-
terracotta pavilion is a
stereotypically Chinese
building. Its pillars are
carved with calligraphy
and lanterns hang from its
ceiling, which is inlaid with
eye-catching gold etchings
and paintwork.
FEATHERED FRIENDS
Up to 30 species of birds (including
pied fantails, magpie robins and
zebra doves) inhabit the park,
providing it with a cheery, chirpy
soundtrack, and adding to
Lumpini’s charm as a haven
for nature lovers and
birdwatchers.
VIBRANT FLOWERS
Clusters of wonderfully attractive
flowers, ranging from orchids to
frangipani, can be found throughout
the park, with particularly
impressive specimens in the
garden which surrounds the
Lanna Pavilion.
FIELDOF LOVE
Bangkok may not be a city
synonymous with romance,
but loved-up couples
flock to this garden just to
the west of the Chinese
pavilion. Here, amid wide
lawns, are a series of large
heart shapes standing tall
above the grass, covered
in pot plants. It is a setting
tailor made for the
photo-happy social media
generation.

LUMPINI PARK IS AT RAMA IV
ROAD, PATHUMWAN. TAKE THE MRT TO

CLOCK TOWER
Bangkok’s large Chinese
population has had a
significant influence on
the city over the past few
centuries. Evidence of this
sits in the south-eastern
corner of Lumpini in the
form of the park’s main
clock tower, an intricately
designed, Chinese-style
structure which cuts a
striking figure amid its
lush surroundings.
