DECIDE AS A FAMILY
Though parents are the leaders
of the group, it helps to make the
trip enjoyable for everyone if you
ask your children what they’re
interested in seeing and doing. Be
realistic about your schedule and
agree on how much time you’ll
spend at each of your chosen
places of interest.
2
CHECK THE
WEATHER
One way to avoid over-packing is
to make sure you bring weather-
appropriate clothes. This simple
practice of checking the weather
will also help you decide which
activities to take part in.
3
PACK SMART
Bring what’s important to you.
For me, it’s my Kindle, my iPhone
for my podcasts and decent
earphones. I use the travel time to
catch up on my reading and the
podcasts I missed. Earphones with
a noise-canceling feature can be
helpful if you want to concentrate
on what you’re listening to or want
some peace and quiet to catch up
on your sleep.
4
ESTABLISH A
MEETING POINT
The minute your family arrives
at a location, identify a meeting
point. Make sure that everybody
understands that if anyone gets
lost, it’s the place to go to wait for
the others.

TRAVEL IN PAIRS
Aside from the usual advice
for youngsters not to talk to
strangers, stressing the importance
of never being by yourself is
always a good idea. Our children
are very self-reliant and travel-
savvy; they know how to be safe.
They’re trained to look out for one
another and they always travel in
pairs. When one goes to the toilet,
another stands watch outside.
