For Lena Dunham, the best thing
about finding success as a writer
for the hit TV show
Girls
“is that,
hopefully, I’m going to continue
to make it work. I was a babysitter,
a legal assistant. I worked at a
clothing store. I was terrible at all
of them. So this is the only job
for me. The success of the show
indicates that I’ll continue to do
this sort of work.” But success
comes with some challenges, too.
“It’s no longer as easy to sit alone
in a diner and read the newspaper,
which happens to be my favorite
activity. You have to account for
the fact that there’s a different
kind of attention and scrutiny. As
I always say to people, I never
liked leaving my house that much
anyway. So now, there’s a great
excuse not to.”
