probably the most popular brand out there but there are
other options. Here’s a few:

IF YOU DON’T
WANT TO
SPEND BIG BUCKS
Chinese maker SJCAM’s
suite of cameras is nearly
indistinguishable from
those of the big brands in
terms of both looks and
functionality but each sells
for a lot less. There are
some design quirks but
they’re easy to overlook
given the wallet-friendly
prices.

SMALL BUT BASIC
The Polaroid Cube
is smaller than its rivals,
making it more portable in
an already ultra-portable
market. However, its
cuteness comes at
the expense of some
functionality, meaning lower
picture quality and a shorter
battery life. Still, it does the
trick.

BUT IF YOU
REALLYWANT A
GOPRO…
Reacting to the influx of
more affordable point-of-
view cameras, GoPro has
responded with its own
low-priced, entry-level
model, dubbed Hero. For
fewer bucks, it delivers
just enough bang to get
the job done. New tricks
include QuickCapture,
where the unit boots up and
takes the shot in one press.
US$129.99;
BEST
OF THE
BURST
The modest dimensions
of action cameras make
them prone to shaking
when the shutter button is
pressed. To avoid ending
up with a blurry picture,
set your camera to burst
mode. Most such cameras
take three to eight shots
per second and allow you
to pick one later. Three
frames per second should
be enough to get at least
one decent frame without
eating up too much
storage. With Vine and
Instagram allowing video
uploads, you can also try
your hand at combining
your stills into short clips.
Even three frames can
be interesting when on
a loop! Try Timelapse
Studio, available for free
on iTunes with a US$4.99
option to activate its
feature pack.
